Belief in the notion, that cats possess psychical powers goes back at least as far as the ancient Egyptians, whose word for cat, mau,literally meant "to see".Throughout history, cats and their supposedly all -seeing eyes have been consulted as oracles. It was just one step from the belief, that cats had psychical powers to the notion, that such powers could be transferred to people by their pets. |
An area of special interest to psychic research is the cat's power, that has come to be called "psi-trailing" - the ability of a cat to travel far distances through unknown territory in order to reach a specific destination. There are numerous stories - many which cannot be dismissed as luck - about cats, who have journeyed great distances to find their owners or return to their original homes. |
FOR EXAMPLE, an army sergeant in Kokomo ( Indiana) took his large yellow tomcat with him, when he was transferred to a base in Augusta ( Georgia). The cat apparently decided, that life in Indiana was preferable and made the 700-mile trip back to his old home in only three weeks. The cat could not have simply remembered the route back to Indiana, because he had made the original trip to Georgia in an express train. |
Today, the common tendency is to dismiss stories, that suggest the reality of psychic phenomena and , if plausible scientific explanations are lacking , to attribute the mysterious events to chance or luck. |
