FUTURISTIC FANTASIES

Zoom into a future of space-aged technology and whimsical futuristic inventions. Have your guests come wearing costumes and carrying props or signs that predict the lifestyle of the twenty-first century, which, at the time this book is written, is less than 2,000 days away.

INVITATION IDEAS
*Design the invitations using state-of-the-art computer graphics, laser art, and holograms

.*Write the party information on Mylar paper, then send in clear space tubes.

*Send an "into the future" kit with each invitation: Martian "boinger" headgear (antenna-like headband), hologram glasses, and security I.D. badge; mail everything in a small pizza box (the most convenient and inexpensive way to mail bulky invitations).

*Record an RSVP voice-mail message with Space Odyssy theme music in the background. Do some voice distortion to your message. (See Party Tips, #2)

DRESS OPTIONS
*Shiny, shimmering, reflective clothing

*Star Trek costumes (human and "alien")

*Representing futuristic occupations or technological developments

DECOR
*Mylar and futuristic mirrored fabrics, draped around the party room and covering serving tables. Add touches to dining tables, too. Never too much Mylar or shiny foil papers

*Laser lights, holograms

*Futuristic posters and artwork, Star Trek movie posters, memorabalia

*Drawings or plans for futuristic inventions or technological advancements. Have contest amongst students at your local high school, "The Most Amazing Invention of the Future". Display the drawings as decor at your party, have guests vote for their favorite and award a prize.

ACTIVITIES
*Write overly technical descriptions of everyday items on a contest form, include a few made-up descriptions. Have the guests guess the items, pass their forms to the next person, and correct each others. This is a laugh riot.

*Hang magazine photos or drawings of ultra modern products on the wall, create teams;have the teams compete to identify the products and their uses.

*Have a Star Trek trivia contest.

REFRESHMENTS
*Menu items simulating those served aboard the space shuttles: fruit bars, dried foods on small trays, Tang to drink.

*Foods and beverages with such names as Mars Bars(tm), Milky Way(tm), Lil'Orbit Donuts(tm), Satellite Stew, Constellation Rations, Big Dipper Ice Cream and Solar Cola

PRIZES/FAVORS
