Ok, this is the gown page. This is probably the most expensive dress you will buy in your life, unless you get very lucky. There are a few pointers to keep in mind. Remember I am going on my own personal experience and just throwing it out to you.

Do you have a perfect figure?--You DO! Well then... get outta here! The rest of you grab three oreos and a glass of milk and meet me at the next paragraph.

Let's talk about the gown thing. First of all the best advise I can give you is be patient, have fun with it and most importantly have an open mind.

If you go to a bridal salon manned with a person with any experience in this field she should be able to look at you and offer some choices. Go with it! Try some of these on, I promise this works. These experienced people can usually see your figure flaws and pick out a myriad of styles that work with your body type.

Even if you think you must have an off the shoulder gown, (which I thought I had to have) It might turn out that it is not the best look for you. For example, I don't have perfect posture and in an off the shoulder gown I look very round shouldered. When I looked in the mirror and stood up straight, they looked great, because I was concious of my posture. However, the moment I relaxed and stood normally, it looked awful. So my dream of the off the shoulder look was dashed. But I eventually found a dress that flattered me, with the help of an experienced woman who knew her way around a bridal shop. So, I learned the hard way, of course, keep an open mind. I also thought I would not like all the fancy-schmancy beading... well, now my dress is pretty heavily beaded! Go figure! I love it!

In a nutshell here is my BIG advise:

*Be patient

*Go alone at first, then after you see a few you like, bring a trusted friend or your mom. In my case my future mother-in-law brought me luck in finding my dream dress!

*Do Not wear make-up, or very little of it! Because... you'll end up leaving your face on the samples! Not only this embarrassing but the salespeople tend to get a little pissy about it.

*Don't fool yourself into thinking you will drop a size and fit in. Buy the right size. If you loose they can easily take it in.

* Remember, sample dresses have been tried on by lots of different sized women, they've been literally stretched out. Go with your size according to your measurments. I've heard stories of women who tried on the sample and it fit, (probably--JUST fit) and then they ordered it in that size and when it came in...BINGO, too small!

*Be honest about your BUDGET! So they won't show you dresses you can't afford and fall in love with anyway.

*Don't forget, you have the veil, undergarments, shoes, garter, etc...to budget as well.

*A 50% deposit is the norm. NONREFUNDABLE, did I mention?

*Don't be pressured by "the big sale", its a big purchase, they'll work with you.

*Smile, relax and have fun.

*Go out on a limb, try on something you think you really think you will absolutly HATE! You might be surprised. Remember be open-minded and try on a lot at various places.

*Go with your instincts, if something about the dress, the place, the sales staff, the wallpaper, doesn't feel right say thanks and leave.

Ok that's all for now. Have fun, live the fantasy to the fullest. Shopping for the gown while exasperating at most should also be fun and later bring back terrific memories.

This link is excellent! Seriously one of the best I've seen. A great way to browse throught different gowns, definetly worth the minute it takes to fill out the form. It is also worth the time it takes for some of the pictures to come up.

Go Shopping!
