What is RetroBox ?

RetroBox is a program for emulators which handles all platform specific coding leaving the emulator authors to do what they want, writing a nice accurate stable emulator.

RetroBox also supports the use of plugins which every emulator can use automaticly since they let RetroBox handle them.

What are some features RetroBox will have ?

There are plans for netplay, movie recording, AVI encoding, hotkey mapping, video and sound filtering, choice of video rendering or sound out which all emulators will be able to use. Some features the emulator have to be program to take advance of is dynamic memory editing, cheat/value finding & editing.

There are tons of plugins that can be made. If you would like to write a plugin or want to request a plugin email me (read "How can i help?" below).

Who is supporting RetroBox ?

No one is officially supporting RetroBox. As of this moment i am writing all the code and i am getting ready for a private demo release. Authors who have shown interest are

Where can i get RetroBox ?

Here, but not yet. Currently RetroBox is unstable and is in a private beta stage. You can speed things up by helping.

How can i help?

We are looking for people to write plugins, people able to port the RetroBox to consoles and unsupported platforms and emulator authors/porters to port or write emulators using the RetroBox API.

I would like somone to offer a homepage with PHP support and a forum so people can submit bugs or ask questions about porting (althought it shouldnt be hard).

You can contact me at retropoint yahoo.com.

What are the advantages of running RetroBox with X emulator instead of running emulator X ?

One reason is emulator X may not have been ported to your platform. Another reason are the multiple plugins that you can download to enhance emulator such as video filters or maybe a input filter supporting joypads or a rare device. If you a guy who likes making videos or sound you may get better avi support along with different types of encoding with RetroBox. This all depends on the system your running on. Many plugins may be platform specific.

Got any screenshots?

Yes. At the bottom of the page there is screenshot of Battle Of Olympus for the nes, the same picture with RertoBox using scale2x and sonic for the game gear still using the scale2x filter (which is not fully ported or tested so it may look wrong in this picture).

What platforms is RetroBox currently on?

We have RetroBox using windows, SDL ( tested on windows & linux) and an older version ran on Nintendo DS (thanks to BlueHawk).
