El Dr. Salomón Lerner Febres , Rector de la Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú que ha sido recientemente nombrado Presidente de la Unión de Universidades de América Latina- UDUAL, señala la necesidad urgente de nuestras Universidades recuperen su personalidad como agentes sociales ya que deben enfrentar la realidad latinoamericana, "en la que las premisas de la sociedad del conocimiento constituyen antes que el diagnóstico de la situación, un proyecto."
Nuestras Universidades tienen una herencia de sólida institución crítica, de una
formación básica y humanista con incentivos a la investigación que va más allá de los
objetivos prácticos inmediatos, por lo que no se limitan a preparar a los estudiantes
para el ejercicio de una profesión
