F-200 Radar Detector tester/fooler This item uses tuneable microwave technology to activate radar detectors within 1/4 mile. This item is useful for generating a signal in the 10 GigaHz range to test the sensitivity or interference resistance of various radar detectors. (Some in-store displays of radar detectors use a less powerful version of this device to demonstrate their detectors. But since you cannot walk away with the tester and activate it, you can't tell how far off the detectors work.)
Our unit uses surface-mount technology for high reliability and long life. It can also be used by amateur radio operators to transmit a CW (morse code) signal in the 10.450 to 10.500 Ghz range. The manufacturer warns not to adjust the transmitter frequency adjustment to above the top edge of the amateur band, as this would cause radar detectors to be set off, and might cause a nearby driver to slow down beleiving that there is an officer on speed patrol nearby. Hacker Central does not endorse this use of the 10GHz transmitter on the roads, nor do we have any information on the legality of the device for that use.
