Haiku
The cricket sang long
Into the evening stillness
Serenading spring.
Stars like silver fish
Caught in a net of black boughs
Twinkle from the trees.
A petal aloft--
Bright butterfly flashing by
Like some strange flower.
Upper atmosphere
So blue it's almost purple;
Deep, deep summer sky.
Invisible hands
Ruffle and part brown tendrils--
Wind in autumn grass.
A blur of bright light
Flashing white across green
glade--
Egrets in the dawn.
Brown orb on damp ground;
A gust of smoke when crinkled--
Puffball underfoot.
Plink! Plonk! Water sounds,
Raindrops hitting metal pots--
The roof sprung a leak!
Spice of burning fall
Hits the nose sharp from bonfires,
Brown leaves crackle smoke.
