Non-BEAM robots
This is the first 'bot that I built back in the late '80s. The Omni Photovore. The 'vore is built around the "guts" of a cheap toy car from Radio Shack. This robot will seek out light using it's two side-mounted photocells and run away from shadows that cover it's forward- mounted photocell. Plans for this 'bot are available at Johuco ltd. and include a wealth of information on artificial neurons, robotic behaviors, etc. Highly recommended and lots of fun!.
Another robot from Johuco. This one is called the Muramator or "wall-lover". It uses an Infra-red emitter and detector to sense obstacles and avoid them. It has two levels of behavior. It's primary behavior is to move forward until something triggers it's sensor, then it stops and backs up( turning to the left as it does so ). The second level of behavior is that when the robot has gone too long without encountering an obstacle, it will stop, turn and seek out an obstacle. In this way it always tries to stay near a wall ( or the edges of it's "world" ). A fun robot to play with as it zooms forward, spins around and takes off in another direction.
