GEOPHYSICS GROUP

HISTORICAL REVIEW

The Geophysics Group is a Work group whose objectives are the formation and update of their members in differents areas of Geophysics, by means of char them, courses or projects of work or investigation in interest areas. It is made up of students and professional with interests in geophysics, it extends objective academic and it serves from support the Colombian Academy of Geophysical Sciences. It began in 1980, by initiative of Professor L. A. Briceño, because of the deficiency of curricular programs or associations that allowed and fomented the discussion and development of the geophysics. It was support for the creation of the Geophysics M.S. in 1984, and although the admissions for this program were suspended as of 1987, the Group has remained and is conformed at the moment by 20 people between students and professors.

The Group as element of support to the academic formation in the fields of Earth sciences has the following purposes:

Processing of a scheme of work in order to make investigations in Geophysics with projection to the understanding of concrete geologic problems.
Improvement of the existing conditions for the development of a conscience of investigation in Geophysical Sciences.
Establishment of a permanent grouping that serves as base for the development of Research activities in the field of Geophysical Sciences.
To contribute to the suitable generation, transference and diffusion of Geophysical sciences to traverse a assembly of activities glided for such aim.

Fractal Analysis of the structural Geomorphology of the Savannah of Bogota and its geologic and geophysical implications.
Geophysical Emerald prospection
Electrical Tomography in coal prospection.
Geophysical Modeling of the Southwest of the Savannah of Bogota.
Three-dimensional Modeling of the Colombian Caribbean from geophysical data.
Seismotectonic Modeling of the urban area of Santafé of Bogota and its implications in the evaluation of seismic risk.
Metallic mineral prospection by means of combined geophysical methods.
Construction of a renormalizaded model of the Guaicaramo faults system from seismologycal information.
Seismic and geoelectrical study of the Knot of San Turbán for the determination of the dynamics of the Romeral Fault.
