Montana 99
This summer, my family and I spent one week in the Big Sky
Montana area. On our way out, we stopped at the Bozeman
Sweet Pea Festival. (An Arts and crafts festival. Mom was the
only one who really participated or enjoyed it much) Other
than the sweet pea festival, the drive out (12 hours) was pretty
uneventful until about 15 mile out of Big Sky where we lost the
tread on one of our tires. Fortunately, the spare worked fine
and it was only a minor delay.
Monday, Mom and Dad drove back to Bozeman to buy a new
tire. Susie and I spent the day in the pool and relaxing at the
base of Lone Mountain in Big Sky Montana.

Tuesday was another beautiful day. The weather was clear,
warm and sunny. Dad, Susie and I climbed up on Lone
Mountain while Mom shopped. The view from up on top of
the mountain was gorgious.... Montana looks very different
than the fruited plains of North Dakota.

Wednesday, we went to Virginia City which is an old
western town. I have never been a big Western person, but
it was still interesting. We ate at a really neat restaurant
that was set up like a garage. The booths looked like 1/2 a car
stuck in the wall. They thought of every detail down to a the
lights-- which were trouble lights.
Thursday was a car day. We drove down to the Teatons
(which were too cloudy to be considered excellent), Jackson
Hole (lots of good shopping.... but that isnt my bag), and
Yellowstone (which is really run-down. The roads suck and
the trees are still burnt from the fire 10 years ago).

Thursday night, I set my alarm so that I could catch part of
the Perseid Meteor Shower. I was fascinated by it (and ended
up getting everyone out of bed at 4 in the morning). The stars
in Big Sky were sooooo much more impressive than the
street-light infested stars of Fargo.

Friday, Susie and I hit the Links. It was my first 18-hole
golf game in AGES.... somehow, by not playing for 4 years I have
started to hit farther..... but that is unimportant since I
couldnt keep it on the fairway (or in bounce sometimes!)
Saturday we hiked down to see Uesal Falls. The falls were
beautiful (I love falling water!)... then we took off to Fargo.
That afternoon / night we drove the WHOLE way home in one day....
needless to say, most of Sunday was spent sleeping since we had
been up late in the car.
