Julyl 2000 PUGSL meeting St Louis County Library

David Pogue's PalmPilot the Ultimate Guide, O'Reilly & Associates remains the most frequently referenced book in our meetings. Somone mentioned a new book entitled "How to do Everything with Your Palm".

HandHeld Computing Magazine has some competition.

Gene make a great presentation of the RandMcNally Streetfinder GPS system for the Palm. It comes with a car kit, but it is a little hard to read while driving. Installation was a little non-intuitive, and the device came with two CDRoms. Third party topographic maps are available, but this is really designed for street navigation. No latitude or longitude (flying/sailing/hiking). No battery indicator on the GPS unit. Six to ten foot accuracy is excellent. 1.7 meg used on Palm for South Metro St louis and West St Louis/County. The price is good at $179 with street prices as low as $79 for you rebate shoppers out there.

Sony is coming out with a PalmOS handheld (color in Japan).

Suveys of users in attendance showed concerns with confidentiality of records on the Palm which may be addressed by crypto software.

Favorite programs included Avantgo (of course), datebook4, tealinfo, penguin backup.

See you in August.
