From Jim Farrar:
"Wm. F. Compton's son William came to Collingwood, MN abt 1879 and
married Nancy DeLong on July 28, 1887. I have a copy of the 1880 Plat of
Collingwood showing the Manitoba Railway Company owning the property
later purchased by Wm Compton. On Oct 27, 1887 William and his wife sign
an "Indenture" (Mortgage) with Gertrude Robertson for $165 payable at 8%
in 4 years on the 40 acres - I have a copy of the Indenture. On Nov 11,
1887 William and Nancy purchased the 40 acres (with a railroad easement)
for $280. The deed record No. 3335 was recorded Nov. 5, 1888 (I have a
copy).Wm died died Dec 11, 1945 and is is buried with his parents
(William F. Compton & Mary Sword) in the Dassel Cemetery. I checked to
see if a will had been probated for him and one had not. However, on Sep
4, 1936 he filled for safekeeping a sealed will- that was unsealed for
me on Dec 29, 1998 (62 years later - Jim Farrar has a copy). In abt 1901 Wm. Fuller Compton and his wife Mary Sword moved from Pike
Co., KY to Collingwood, Meeker Co., MN and stay with their son Wm and
his wife Nancy. Wm. F. Compton died Mar 3, 1904 and is buried in the
Dassel Cemetery (no death notice/obituary, entry in the Register of
Death or will were found). Mary died Apr 27, 1908 which is recorded in
the Meeker Co., MN Register of Death at page 232. A notice of her
passing is in The Dassel Anchor newspaper, April 30, 1908 issue - front
page, col 2.. She died at her daughter Mrs. John Fidler's home. She is
buried next to her husband Wm. F in the Dassel Cemetery.A number of other children of Wm. F. Compton came to MN. Jim Farrar's latest land patent research is as follows:

See No. 4: James B. Compton [Buck?] who would have been 21 and 2 years before he married Malinda. Jim states that at least 3 of William F's family moved to MN. Data is from the BLM site. The other James could be William's father.
