This is the Death of Julius Caesar. The men in the center holding the bloody daggers are the Senators of the Roman Senate who were led in the plot to kill Caesar by Caesar's trusted associate Brutus. Notice that Caesar is lying at the foot of the statue of Pompey. Caesar had fought Pompey during a bloody civil war and had defeated him when a servant of Caesar's decapitated him.
