The Music

This page contains a great number of music-styles in the raveculture:

You will see some letter combinations....theese stands for:

Bpm.... Stands for Beats per minute....how many boom...boom...per minute you hear..or something like that.

House (118-128 bpm)

One of the griund elemts within todays dancemusic. Was created by american DJ:s 15 years ago which had become tired of the all to commercial discomusic.

Example: Sterling Void "Runaway Girl"

Techno (122-160bpm)

Was invented by Derrich May with the "song" "String of life" in 1985. Today ther are both the european variant and "real" techno. It's origin is from detroit where Juan Atkins, Kevin "Inner City" Saundersson and Derrich May lived and laborated in the early 80:ies.

Example: Jeff Mills "Wave forms 3"

Trance (130-150 bpm)

Trance came when techno became all to pompous and popy. To the one with unexperienced ears trance can sound extremly monotonous, the same loops can last in hours. But for thoose which has learned to listen to trance gets positively into trance.

Example: BT "Loving you more" Another great swedish music creator within trance is "Miranda"

Ambient (0-60bpm)

Some people claim that ambient have excisted since Brian Enos time, since the early 70:ies. but DJ:s says that it was first in 1988 when Jimmy from KLF and Alex from Orb played at "Land Of Oz" when the style became a music style.

Example: Aphex Twin "Selected ambient works 85-92"

Goa (128-150 bpm)

Toadys most popular variant of Trance. The origin of the name is from the place in India where the Goa-Style became under warm beach partys. The music is easy to find, almost as easy as euro within techno.

Example: Man with no name "Floor Essence"

Rave (120-150 bpm)

Rave is a way to have partys , a musicstyle and a conception. It means something like "big party in a big place indoors, or outdoors with much people". Rave is pretty much the same thing as the warehouse partys which took place under the acidtime (1987-1989). The style itself is allthough hard defined. In England rav is same thing as Breakbeat/Drum & Bass, in Germany Techno is Rave and in Sweden Rave is something dangerous which kids do late in the nights. A little note: Here in Sweden we had a period with the news on our backs all the time. A mayor drug propaganda raised too, but just look at other places, a bar, a disco, drugs are everywhere.

Example:

Euro (126-140 bpm)

A veriety of techno that noone wants to be familiar with. To this style all the commercial take place which contains happy synth loops, pianos, bad rappers and "buttery" refrains. E-type is one of the kings within this genre.

Example: Culture Beat "Mr Vain"

Jungle (140-180 bpm)

Jungle is in fact breakbeat with a little reggae in it. Very popular abroad, especially in England and USA. Attracts both ex-ravers and reggae-fans. The style rised in the southern suburbs of London. Rat pack and Shut up and Dance was the pioneers.

Example: General Lavy "Incredible"

Hardcore (120-140 bpm)

"Hardcore you know the score" said Altern 8 when they appeared at Top of the Pops 1991. since then, hardcore is an conception within the whole raveworld. hardcore is everything, it can be everything from rave, breakbeat and hip-hop to real hard techno.

Example: N-Joi "Malfunction"

Ok....don't expect that this is all...there will be some 35 styles to come...the quetion is just, when?
