Discovery

The Discovery Project was a well-publicized "bio-medical" research project that won wide-ranging acclaim in both the national and international communities of the 1 960's ("Eyes"). This operation provided a lesson that this country's decision makers still adhere to today; that is that the best possible security for a project, regardless of its size or cumbersome nature is to "hide in plain sight."

On August 18, 1960, Discover 14 was launched. On board the rocket booster that day was the world's first reconnaissance satellite code-named "Corona". The satellite made 17 orbits around the earth.
