Privacy for the Captain

This small access hatch gives entry to the tiny cabin reserved for the captain. Being a captain of a crew onboard ship is a lonely job as he must not become too close to the men as this would lead to a "weakness" and may put lives in danger. his private hours were spent mainly here and he made use of the time to plan the charts. On the reproduction Niņa this room is occupied by a diesel engine that propels the ship and supplies electrical energy for lights and radio. You guessed it! Required by the U.S. Coast Guard.
