Aunt Retha and Uncle Doug

For everything they are, and all the love they share...

While I was growing up, I had an idol, as most children do... She is the person I have always looked up to with admiration and my deepest respect... I saw her as a strong willed, firey, classy, witty, intelligent, funny individual with a good sense of humor, and all the things I always wanted to be when I grew up... am still trying to get there, but doubt I'll ever quite reach her level. She is my Aunt Retha... and Doug is her husband. I made this poem for her after one early fall when she had invited me to stay with her for a few days in Atlanta, GA, and at her house in the Appalachain Mountains... The picture above it is me and aunt Retha sitting in a yard swing watching the sunset there (I had this picture framed with the poem for her)... hope you like the poem too.....

Puvogel's Paradise

What did I feel when visiting this glorious place?
Heaven on earth, and awe from wide open space.
A retreat for seclusion, an escape from the stress,
Where the only worries are sleep, eat, and dress.
Watching nature's creatures, playing with ease,
A warm gentle caress of the wind in the trees.

A touch of freedom, like soaring with the sparrows,
Bright rays of happiness, reflections of shooting arrows.
Life to its fullest, inhaling precious refreshing air.
Simply being of this world, without a single care.
Realization of what's really important to me,
and what it is I would like you to see.

Frozen daiquiris, an exceptional sunset to view,
Or beauty of land, can't compare to just being by you.
The places I've visited were great, yes indeed,
But aren't what created this emotional seed.
If life could be better, I wouldn't know how,
Because of your affection, I feel then and now.

Cherished inspirations from wonderful souls of all heart,
Who give me joy, love, hope, naming a few, just to start.
These feelings I felt, that gave me these things,
To keep in mind when forced to deal with life's stings,
Was not from the mountains, or the peace I felt there,
But Retha and Doug, it is you that my heart holds so dear.

I Love You !
