people select sites and put them in a hierarchical system. There is no standard for such a system. Every subject directory uses its own, totally different, categorization. Subject directories can be thought of as catalogues. These directories are categorized overviews of internet resources. However, this part can be the 'quality part,' containing sites selected by specialists or it can be 'garbage' depending on the author of the site.
These subject directory contains overviews of subjects, subdivided into often quite broad categories, such as art, recreation, science.
