David found a holographic receptionist at the desk, she had brown short hair and was wearing blue clothes. Her holographic image flickered very so often and she spoke softly, "Welcome to the Tri-Institute, how may we help you?"
David had made no attempt to present himself, and he saw no need to, he was showing others his mind, not his appearance. Dirt and grime covered his face and he was covered in a half-torn brown robe, his eeyed bled and a large knife wound was carved into his cheek as he looked up at the receptionist. He had a dark, cold, and soft sounding voice as he spoke, a sound of evil hidden within the core of his voice. He coughed blood onto his palm before saying, "I am David Lagmire, I am responding to the request for open minds, let me speak to someone,"
The receptionist eyed him for a long while wondering if he was honest. David returned the stare, not with hope or despair, but with the look of sheer certainity, he knew what he was doing. The receptionist then clicked a few buttons on a keyboard and said, "Full biological and psychological analysis will need to be performed to determine your potential, as determined by Dr. Cise, third door to your right,"
David went to the third door to his right, as instructed. Then David felt something push against his arm, a moment later, all was black. When he woke he was notified that they had performed all the neccessary tests and that he had much potential.
David had been assigned the head researcher in an experiment involving Verra energy. David was the only one on Saturn colony who knew alot about Verra. Everybody has a minor Verra signature, which will do no harm, too much will kill a person from the inside out, distengrating their organs one by one. Verra energy was typically used to charge weapons as well, it would create powerful laser-beam weapons. Verra in its pure-form was a rock, but it could be turned into a purple liquid and then processed into energy crystals. The purpose of this experiment was to enhance someone's Verra signature to something that wouldnt kill them, but make them a more powerful being. David was sure he had the process correct! There would be three phases to the experiment, there was great risk to anyone involved, but the reward could be amazing. Phase A would involving injecting the subject with a serum of liquid Verra. Phase B involves lowering the subject into a tub of thickened liquid Verra, and allowing it to seep into their skin. Phase C involves slowly raising their Verra signature while the subject is in the tub of liquid Verra. Of course, he had anticipated some variables, but he was sure it would work! David had a team of three other members. Alyssa, another scientist, whom he collabroated with. Mike, a tech who would keep track of the Verra crystals during Phase C. Then there was Ral, a doctor who would be making sure the subject did not die during the experiment.
Months had past, and David was ready to perfor the experment, everyone else was looking for a subject. Davod had already picked one: himself. He called upon his team late at night when everyone else in the institute was supposedly asleep and they began the experiment...
David was laid out on the table with intraveneous tubes plugged into both of his arms to allow the serum to enter his veins. David ordered, "Begin Phase A,"
Alyssa filled a serum with purple liquid and said, "I cant say I agree with this," and injected the serum into the tubes.
There was a long pause and then David said, "I dont feel anything,"
Alyssa said, "Your anticipated variable #8: subject may require 24-hour rest period for any effect to take place,"
Ral was looking at his monitors at said, "Pulse is up, brain-wave activity is unchanged, Verra signature unchanged,"
David said, "Begin Phase B,"
Alyssa argued, "I must protest, we should wait for Phase A's effects!"
Ral argued as well, "Yes, and your pulse is already up!"
David raised his voice, "Begin Phase B, now!"
Alyssa sighed, "Start Phase B, watch those monitors close, Ral,"
Mike pushed a button on a computer terminal and David lowered into a tub of purple Verra goo. He waited a few minutes later for Ral's analysis.
Ral said, "Pulse still rising, brain-wave activity rising, Verra activity rising, Verra is seeping in,"
Mike said, "Beginning with Phase C," and he flipped a switch and purple energy crystals surrounding the tub David was in began to brighten and glow.
Ral said, "This is hazardous! Pulse is at dangerous levels, as is brain-wave activity, Verra signature rising quickly," at about ten minutes later, David rose from the tub, covered in the thick purple skin that glistened and covered his entire body, besides his eyes. His eyed were colored blue, except the pupils, which were black. The experiment had removed all his hair.
David stood up at his new full height, around 6 1/2 feet. A monstrosity. He made a loud groaning sound, saying, "What..am..I?" and leapt upon Mike, holding him by the throat and growled, "You did this!!"
Mike screamed, "No, no, I didnt David!"
Alyssa stared in horror, and fled from the room. David squeezed Mike's throat and blood poured from his neck, then he throat him through a wall, breaking his back. David was 7 feet tall now, he had actually grown. He rushed Ral now, grabbing him by the throat as well, then he somehow sent an electric current through his arm, shocking Ral and killing him. instantly.
