Habitat
river valleys, near prairie ponds and sloughs.
Description
The plains garter snake has three lateral stripes present on the third and
fourth scale rows. Black bars are also present on the lips. Ground color
is usually brown or greenish. Ground color can also appear reddish in rare
specimens. Scales are keeled and the anal plate is singular.
