Student Recognition Day

Last semester (spring 1996)I was one of the six students selected from the Computer Science and Electrical Engineering Department to receive a certificate of achievement in the "Student Recognition Day" event. Once a year this event takes place around the end of the spring semester. Every department in the university selects a few outstanding students and these students gather on this day to receive a certificate of achievement and a prize (which varies according to the department -- we at computer science each received a book). This year the Student Recognition Day took place on May 5, 1996. The ceremony lasted a few hours and ended with a reception -- good food and picture taking! I was very proud to be one of the computer science students selected by the Computer Science and Electrical Engineering Department this year!

Cipher Busters Hall of Fame

Last fall (fall 96) when I took cryptology I was the best darn cipher buster in the whole class and made it to the Cipher Busters Hall of Fame!!! This class was really lots of fun. And the professor, Dr. Brook Stephens, is my most favourite professor... No, no, I'm not a cipher punk. Maybe for a few months I tried to be. Now I'm just trying to decipher ..... the meaning of LIFE!@#$% Oh, dear...

Promotion and Tenure Committee

Also last fall I was selected an undergraduate student member of the Promotion and Tenure Committee for the Computer Science and Electrical Engineering Department. I got to call lots of students and ask them about the professors who were under review that year. Then I reported my findings at the committee meeting and voted on these professors. It was really great to be part of this process! I would like to especially thank Dr. Joel Morris, Dean of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering Department, and Dr. Brook Stephens for allowing me the opportunity to participate in this committee. It was an experience I truly enjoyed and I learned a lot from it.
