Amanda screamed, "What was that!"

"Just an owl", replied Tina sounding annoyed as usual.

"Not the owl, the other thing."

"I don't know, I'll guess I'll have to press the button to hear it again."

"Now I know, it's the nori eater!"

"Let's get back to our camp site and start a campfire."

When the girls got back to their camp site, they were pleasantly surprised to see that the fire had already been started.

"Who started the fire", Amanda asked nervously.

"Our fearless leader of course", Tina replied.

"But where is she? Manatee wouldn't go away and leave a fire burning."

Tina knew that Amanda was right, but she didn't want to scare the other girls. Or did she?

"Let's get the stuff to make smores," Tina suggested, trying to change the subject.

"But, it's not our turn to cook," Mindy whined.

"Ok Mindy," Tina said, "You can wait for the others to get back, if they ever get back."

"What do you mean , if?" demanded Mindy.

Tina shrugged, "Oh I don't know, forget it."

But they couldn't forget it. Their leader was missing, their friends were missing, it was getting dark, and they were hungry.

"Let's go look for them at the pond," Amanda suggested.

They didn't see anyone at the pond, but they did see something hiding among the cattails.

The girls didn't wait to find out what it was, they didn't stop running until they reached the main road outside the camp. That's when they saw the flashing lights of the patrol cars. Manatee was there, talking to a police officer.

"What's going on," demanded Tina.

"I wish I knew," replied Manatee. "The rest of our troop disappeared."

"It was the Nori eater," Tina replied, "We saw it."

"The Nori eater is a vegetarian, it eats Nori," insisted Manatee.

"Whatever, then you tell me where everyone is," said Tina.

Manatee couldn't tell her. No one has seen the missing girls of troop 124 since that night, but if you go down to the pond, and listen closely, you just might hear their incessant whining and complaining, "I'm tired, I'm hungry, it's your turn to cook, I'm not serving anybody, I'm not your servant, I'm not cleaning the bathhouse tomorrow,...."
