2. How large and high will the new interchanges be... and how many houses and businesses will be taken and torn down?
3. How congested will other roads like Little River Turnpike, Gallows Road,
Braddock Road, Route 123, and Georgetown Pike be after completion of the project?
Will VDOT have to widen these roads?
4. How long will my rush hour Beltway trip take after completion of the project?
During construction?
5. I understand that a combination of a new rail line and one HOV lane in each direction will move more people at rush hour than any other option. Why are you not considering rail as an alternative for this study?
6. How many hours per day is the Beltway congested now and how many hours a day will it be congested in 2020?
7. How much more pollution will the additional daily trips generate in future years?
What percentage of the population (including children and the elderly) is affected by air
pollution now, and how much will this increase?
8. What will happen to noise levels with the increased traffic volume and the loss of the tree buffer?
9. How safe will it be for people to walk and bike through the interchanges, and across connecting roads like Little River Turnpike and Route 123?
10. I understand that your preliminary study said that poor land use and the scattering
of residential and employment sites have created nearly unlimited demand to use the Beltway.
I also understand that studies show that "if you build it, they will come." Does this mean
you will someday widen the Beltway to 16 or more lanes, as the AAA has suggested?
If wider highways don't solve the problem, isn't it time for new solutions?
