Here are some links and pictures of some of the non-local Celtic based bands that I listen to.

I saw (The Pogues), sans Shane by then, in April of 1996 at the Fillmore in San Francisco. Of course, they were awesome.

Captain Tractor are a Canadian band who toured New Zealand back in early 1996. Go here for some pictures taken while they were in NZ. There was also a shorter tour in early 2000, go here for those.

I've yet to see the Plaid Tongued Devils live but have this Canadian bands first three albums and am hoping to get a copy of the fourth once it's done.

Sadly, I also haven't seen the New York based Black 47 live either. All 5 of their albums are great and I hear that there is a 6th not too far away.

The Mollys have to be heard to be believed. Some weird combination of Tex/Mex music combined with very strong Celtic influences make them truely unusual. I've got the first three studio albums and had the 4th, live, album in my hands briefly on the night of the NJ gig but sadly managed to misplace it at some stage. I will work on getting another though. The 5th album is out now and comes in two versions - I've got the double-australasian-tour version and it's excellent. Here are some photos from the US in 1998 and NZ in 1999.

Shooglenifty are another very interesting band. They hail from the extreme north of the UK and have three albums out at this stage, of which I have two. They visited NZ in early 1998 and I got to see them at a free gig in Porirua (near Wellington) at which the following photo was taken.

When I was in London in June of 1998, I got to see Delaneys Donkey at The Swan in Stockwell. I got a copy of their first CD at that gig and here is a photo taken there.
