HABITAT Any part of the Australian mainland which provides access to drinking water. Edge of forests that butt into grassland is prefered, but forced inland to more semi-arid areas (mainly by man). FOUND Throughout Australia, except Tazmania. SIZE Size of a medium dog. HISTORY The dingo isn't truly native to AU. They were either: (1) Brought 15,000 years ago by sea farers, or (2) Related to semi-wild dogs in South-east Asia, and brought by Sea farers. DISTINCTIVE FEATURES It's short haired coat, colorwise, ranges from reddish ginger, rust, yellow to browns and (rarely) to black with white points on the feet, snout, and the tip of the tail. It has a farely large, bushy tail, strong claws, a very agular alert looking head with erect ears. It doesn't bark, but it does howl. EXTRA INFO. They are opportunistic carnivores, eating things from the size of small rodents to sheep and kangaroo. They are sexually mature after 1 year. They usually have 3-4 pups at birth. |
