"A head on collision between two cars at little lakes shortly after 7p.m. Tuesday claiming the lives of Rev. George M. Lamont, 50, minister of Knox Presbyterian Church,Mitchell, and his wife ,Kathleen,aged 47.
In hospitalwith multiple injuries is the driver of the second car, Delton Snyder, 57, of Baden. His condition is reported to be serious.
Mr and Mrs Lamont were returning to Mitchell from Toronto, where Mr Lamont had been attending a meeting of a boardof the Presbyterian Church when the accident occured. MEET HEAD-ON Mr. Snyder, who operates Snyder Transport Ltd. in Baden, was travelling east when the two cars met head-on at the eastern end of the Little Lakes curve. It is believed that the Lamont car had turned out to pass a truck.
Mr. and Mrs. Lamont were killed instantly; and Mr. Snyder, who is under stood to have a broken hip and other injuries, was taken by ambulance to Stratford General Hospital. Mr. Snyder was driving a new car on which he had taken delivery Tuesday and whose speedometer registers 92 miles.
Cpl. Jack lightfoot and Constable Kalvin Stewart of the Sebringville detach- ment, Ontario Provincial Police. are investigating the accident. Dr. David Gcmmell, coroner, has announced that an inquest will be held.
Mr. and Mrs. Lamont are survived by a daughter. Elizabeth. 15. and a son. John, 9. Mr. Lamont and his family came to Mitchell over 11 years ago from Pictou. N.S. A native of Cromarty, Mr.Lamont graduated from Krox College, Toronto, and his wife was a graduate of the Deaconess Training School there. Mrs. Lamont the former Kathleen Strong, was born in Cromarty district. Mrs. Lamont was active in the Women's Missionary Society in which she held sever al offices in the Presbvterian WMS.
At the time of his death, Mr. Lamont was clerk of the Presbytery of Stratford and a member of the pensions board of the Presbyterian Church.
Rev. Hugh Wilson of Shakespeare, moderator of the Stratford Presbytery, conducted the service. Rev. James Ferguson of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Stratford. read Scripture. Rev. William Henderson of Woodstock, moderator of Hamilton and London Synod. led in prayer and Rev. Alex Campbell of St. Mary's Presbyterian Church and Rev. Hugh Hunter of Main Street United Church, Mitchell, represented the ministerial association.
Pallbearers for Mr. Lamont were Rev. Bruce Miles of Listowel, Rev. Donald McDonald, Simcoe. and members of the session, Joseph French and Donald Sinclair of Fullarton Township. Robert Burchell, Hibbert Township, and William Potts, Mitchell.
Pallbearers for Mrs. Lamont were Lorne Aitchison, Lewis Reany. Jack Edmunds, James Douglas, James Fulton and Ernest Allen, all of Mitchell, and members of the session.
Temporary entombment was in the Elizabeth Ritz Memorial Chapel. Mitchell.
The entire church session attended a memorial service Thursday, and anoth
er Friday was attended by more than 75 members of Tudor lodge, AFand AM.
