PBeM Characters
Here are a list of D&D characters I play in the various Play By Email's that I'm involved in. Science fiction-genre characters can be found in my Sci-fi section.
Rodrey Gleibus Emman Shayna Farstride Garith Lariah Aryllis Nalum
Race: Human
Appearance: Standing nearly 6 feet tall, this dark haired Oeridian man certainly has some Flan blood. His lean face centers around piercing green eyes and a mouth that always seems on the verge of breaking into a smile.
More unusual howver, are his armor and shield. They have been worked so that spikes which protrude out of it in various angles and engravings in the metal form a three dimensional symbol of Pelor -- the spikes serving as the rays of light around a central face of the Shining One. Strapped to his right side is an elegant battle axe whose edge shines with a supernatural sharpness.
History: From the southern lands, Rodrey was called to go to the far north by his god to recover an artifact located there. The Spear of Life was used centuries ago by the inhabitants of the land to fend off both the barbarian tribes who roamed the area as well as the many orcs that were native to the cold plains.
Quotes: "The Healer is calling me to go."
Game: Rodrey was my first PC after having learned the rules for 3rd edition D&D. When he got to 3rd level, there were enough players in the game that they didn't need anymore "fire support" and so I had him journey to the south. At about the same time, a PlaybyWeb.com Greyhawk campaign which I was following had some characters die off and needed some muscle. It was a perfect opportunity for me to continue playing with a character I like a lot! Check out our search for the trifold Key.
Race: Halfling
Appearance: Often mistaken for a young child, the disctinction can be made easily upon closer inspection. Short cropped black hair is kept out of his face by the points at the tips of his ears. Under the dark cloak he wears one can see the blackened handles of a set of throwing daggers.
History: Growing up in a tavern located in the slums, Gleibus quickly learned to hide from the often *unpleasant* patrons. Vowing to do better than his parents and return with enough gold to ensure their needs, the adventurous halfling jouryned to the neighboring land of Nyrond. There he joined the Black Wolves on a quest to stop the Orc Army and was grouped with the other freelancer's. After sabotaging the negotiations of two tribes of goblins in an isolated tower, he was separated from the Freelancer's during the flight from the reinforements. He wound up in Mithat (after recieving directions from a friendly elf 8-), where he has agreed to help a certain merchant discover the source of income problems.
Quotes: "Hey! Have ye seen a group o' them Black Wolves somewhere in thes' accursed woods? I seem ta have lost me way."
Game: An interesting idea that was started about a year ago was a Massively Multiplayer Online RPG using the 3rd edition D&D rules. Since it was to take place in the Greyhawk world (my favorite in case you haven't noticed), I jumped on the chance to play! (Rarely do I play D&D cuz I'm usually the DM 8-(. The first character I created there was Gleibus. He started out joining the Freelancer's of the Black Wolves Company in their campaign to stop an Orcish Army, but during their flight, became . . .uhh, lost in the flight! Yeah! Anyways, come by and check out the CORE Rules or the CORE Message board. Since then, Gleeb is awaiting the others in Mithat and to pay for runt has agreed to see why some caravan's were not coming through to a particular merchant. You can follow along at The Smuggler's Farmstead.
Race: Olven
Appearance: One cannot help but stare at the beauty of this exquisitely sculpted elf. Framing an ever youthful face is hair the color of the autumn leaves which tumble to her shoulders. In her hands rests a bow carried as naturally as one does wear clothing.
History: Defending her forest home against an increasing number of orcs, Shayna encountered a small patrol of the Blackwolves Company who were campaigning to defeat an uprising Orchish horde. In time, she joined the so called Freelancer's and has written a Chronicle of the events.
Quotes: "I am Shayna."
Game: Shayna is also part of the CORE, adventuring with the Black Wolves in the Orc Hunt. I had wanted Gleibus to join another adventure in Mithat and felt that Shayna would go better with the other Freelancer's. An opportunity presented itself when the halfling got lost and Shayna stumbled upon them rest of the group as they were reached by a war party of the Orc horde. I have attmepted to catalogue her experiences in a Chronicle of the event.
Race: Half-orc
Appearance: Just a hair under 6 feet, the green-grey toned half-orc would have considerable difficulty in concealing his mixed heritage. As he nears, you make out a certain *tiredness*, perhaps, in his eyes. The worn look of the metal breastplate tells that it has certainly seen it's share of battle. Under the armor, chain can be seen covering the lower half of his torso.
History: A native of Chelate, Garith last saw his home when he left for the wars. Upon his return it had seemed like a lifetime although in reality, it hadn't been that long. However, life is no longer quite the same. So much has changed since he left for the wars -- both in the city and in himself. For there, he not only learned about death and living with it, but more, about the fickleness of life.
Quotes:
Game: The Aerth Li Campaign is another PlaybyWeb.com campaign I'm involved in. I had wanted to try playing a half-orc who instead of using brute strength for combat, mixed in quite a bit of skill.
Race: Halfling
Appearance: Small even among the small folk, this halfling seems born out of the forest itself.
History: Hailing from the dark Menowood, Aryllis has learned to live and thrive in the dangerous woods while protecting it aginst the dark fey that run rampant.
Quotes:
Game: The Kingdom of Sunndi sits at the southern tip of the Old Aerdy West in the World of Greyhawk. Increasing humanoid raids from the Vast Swamp have caused notices to be raised looking for heroes to find the cause. A PlaybyWeb.com game.
Appearance: An extremely muscular dwarf with a certain look of barely contained wildness. The furs he wears over the shirt of chain links would look comical were it not for the large axe he casually carries over his shoulders.
History: It is said that the northmen who live in the frozen wastes of the Thillorian peninsula learned the skills to thrive from the dwarves who inhabited the mountains centuries before the dawn of man. Among these, it is rumored that a few are touched by the gods whose rage clouds the mind, and enpowers the body like the snow storms that rage over the Corusk. It is from this heritage that Nalum comes seeking vengence.
Quotes: "Stupid human." "Stupid orc." "Stupid elf." "Stupid small one."
Game: The last of my CORE characters, Nalum is based off my first 3E character -- when my roommate and I were trying to figure out the whole feats and new classes. Nalum lived large (and even killed a small black dragon) before dying at the hands (literally) of a wight while chasing an evil mage in his fourth level. I recreated him just for the heck of it when I heard that there was a Colloseum in Mitrik, Veluna looking for beasts.
