Luis can't stop thinking about Sheridan's comment about how Ethan has to live the lifestyle of a poor person. Sheridan tells Luis that they should talk about this, but Luis doesn't want to. Luis suggests they go down to the pier and grab some lobster rolls for breakfast. Sheridan says okay, but not before they work through what she said. Sheridan says that she and Ethan have always had money, and she has never had to worry about a paycheck. Sheridan says she can't even take care of her home, she's helpless without the Crane fortune. Luis says that he doesn't make much money either, and every cent of his paycheck is accounted for before he even sees it. Luis tells Sheridan that there is no way he can give her the life she's use to. Luis think he is being dumped, but SHeridan says she doesn't want to end their relationship, she was just warning him of what he was in store for. Sheridan says she can't do anything on her own, and she doesn't care about the Crane money. Sheridan swears that she'd give it all up for him. Later, Luis and Sheridan discuss Ethan and Theresa's relationship. Luis worries that if things do work out for Ethan and Theresa, what will happen to Ethan in the long run. How will he feel, how will he see himself. Luis wonders how Ethan will take care of his sister now? Sheridan asks what he is getting at? Luis says he's going to have to keep a close eye on Ethan and Theresa until Ethan can treat his sister as she deserves to be treated. Later, Luis and Sheridan return to the bedroom for some more love making. Afterwards, Sheridan knows Luis' mind is elsewhere. Luis apologizes, but can't stop worrying about Ethan and his sister. Luis says Theresa is impulsive, and she might not want to wait to marry Ethan. Suddenly, Ethan and Theresa walk into the cabin, fortunately not the bedroom, and Ethan calls out that he and Theresa have some important news. Luis and Sheridan come out to hear Ethan and Theresa's big news, that Theresa gave Ethan her savings. Ethan says it is his turn to do something for her. Theresa suggests they elope, but Luis blurts out "No!"
At the Bennett's, Reese and Father Lonigan learn that the "Ladder of Lucifer" is the only thing that can save Miguel and Charity. A spying Tabitha tells Timmy that the ladder could wipe them out, and Hecuba damns the world wide web. Hecuba refuses to allow Miguel and Charity to be saved! Pilar asks how they will get Miguel and Charity back? Father Lonigan tells her to believe in the word of the Lord. Pilar says she believes him and will do whatever she must to help rescue Miguel and Charity. Reese continues to look up information on the net, and Kay goes outside and stops Hecuba before she can cast a spell on him to shut him up. Hecuba warns Kay to get out of here before she hurt her. Kay refuses, and tackles Hecuba. Back inside, Jessica and Simone look out the window and wonder what in the world Kay is doing? Back outside, Hecuba pins Kay down with a beam of light, and Kay damns her for hurting innocent people. Back inside, everyone hears Miguel and Charity yelling to one another. Pilar goes upstairs to say a prayer, and Father Lonigan urges Reese to hurry. Suddenly, Reese finds what he needs to make the Ladder of Lucifer. Suddenly, Hecuba zaps the computer with a bolt of lightening. Father Lonigan and the others go upstairs with a rope ladder that Reese has constructed. Reese ties one end to the bed, and throws the other end in the closet ala Poltergeist. Downstairs, a cloud appears on the ceiling, and the Ladder comes through the ceiling! Tabitha tells Timmy that they have to destroy that ladder! Meanwhile, Hecuba releases Kay and the two of them look at the ladder.
At the mansion, Ivy refuses to give Julian a divorce. She tells Julian that he can't afford to give her a divorce, because her family has the respect his family needs. Besides, Ivy says that she knows too many of the Crane's dirty secrets. Julian is furious with Ivy and says that he deserves a wife who wants him and welcomes him to his bed. Julian says if Ethan can marry for love, than so can he. Rebecca thinks that Julian is proposing, grabs the ring from his hand, and accepts his proposal. The two then share a kiss to seal the deal, but Ivy says this isn't over. Ivy throws a drink on them to cool them down, and tells Julian to come with her now or she will cut off little Julian! Julian tells Rebecca he wont' be long, and leaves with Ivy. After they leave, Gwen tells her mom that it doesn't look like Ivy is going to give him Julian a divorce. Furthermore, Gwen asks her mom when is she going to get Ethan? Rebecca tells Gwen that they will reveal Theresa's treachery to Ethan on her wedding day. Rebecca assures Gwen that Theresa will never be Ethan's wife. Gwen says that she also claimed Theresa would dump Ethan when she learned he wasn't rich, but she didn't! Rebecca says it doesn't matter, because Ethan will dump her once he learns she knew the truth about him all along. Gwen says she doesn't want to wait until their wedding day, she wants to tell Ethan now.
Meanwhile, Julian and Ivy go to another room, and Ivy tells Julian that if he divorces her then she'll tell the world what really happened to Martin Fitzgerald! Julian thinks she is bluffing because she doesn't know what happened to him. Ivy says she knows enough, and she could always go to Luis with what she knows. Ivy says that if Luis digs deep enough, he may dig Julian's grave in the process! Ivy tells Julian to remember the name Luis when he's discussing their divorce settlement with his lawyers. Ivy leaves, and Julian sees Luis and Sheridan outside. He refuses to allow Luis to find anything, and he says that dead wives tell no tales.
Ivy returns to the living room and finds Gwen and Rebecca plotting, and she wonders what they are up to now. Suddenly, Ethan and Theresa show up to tell Ivy that they are going to get married right away. Ivy is thrilled, and she goes to hug Ethan, but pauses. However, the two do hug. Gwen is thrilled because now she can finally tell Ethan the truth about Theresa.
At the Bennett's, Father Lonigan throws the Ladder of Lucifer into the closet, and the end of it emerges from the ceiling of the living room, ala Poltergeist. HEcuba is furious and refuses to allow Charity and Miguel to be saved. Kay hopes they will be saved, but Hecuba says if Charity is saved, hers will be destroyed because Charity will tell everyone that she sold her out! Hecuba tells Kay that everyone will hate her forever, and she'll never get her souls back! Back upstairs, the demons tells Father Lonigan that his efforts are in vain, Charity and Miguel are theirs now! The demons then grab the ladder and begin to try and pull it away from Father Lonigan! Downstairs, the demons begin throwing things at the kids. Suddenly, Miguel appears on the ladder and is kicking at the demons. A spying Hecuba says she has to keep Miguel from using that ladder, and begins zapping him with lightening! Father Lonigan and the demons continue to exchange threats and prayers, and Hecuba continues to zap Miguel. Father Lonigan says they must all pray, and Pilar asks Tabitha to join them. Tabitha claims she cannot kneel because of the arthritis. As they pray, Miguel falls from the latter, and Reese says that he can't find a pulse, Miguel is dead! Hecuba exclaims "Miguel finally bit the dust, evil rules!" Pilar cries over her ectoplasm covered son, and Kay and Reese remember they know CPR. The kids then work to save Miguel's life as the demons watch from above. Tabitha isn't so sure that Hecuba has succeeded, so she and Timmy split. The kids revive Miguel, and they all hear Charity screaming. Miguel yells to Charity to follow his voice to the other side. They kids see Charity, who is very close to the ladder, but the demons have her surrounded.
At the mansion, Ivy is thrilled that Ethan and Theresa are getting married right away, and she hugs them both. Gwen isn't too happy about this, but Rebecca tells Gwen that she has a great new idea, one which will cause Theresa's life to explode! Rebecca then whispers her idea to Gwen. Theresa asks Ivy to be involved in their wedding, which thrills her. Gwen buts in and says she wants to help as well, she wants to show them that there are no hard feelings between them. Gwen asks Theresa if she could be her maid of honor! Theresa accepts, I think. Ivy offers to cover the cost of the wedding, but Ethan refuses to take Crane money. Rebecca offers to give them a wedding, and they accept, again I think. As they kiss and hug, Ivy tells Rebecca to do whatever she wants to her, but she can never ruin Ethan and Theresa's happiness. Rebecca tells herself that she will not only ruin Ivy's life, but she'll bring Theresa's crashing down as well. Ivy goes to Ethan and Theresa and asks if he won't at least accept one small contribution for Theresa's sake. Ethan says they don't need her charity, but Theresa says he should allow his mom to help. Ivy wants to buy Theresa's wedding gown, but Ethan refuses because he says he wants the wedding to be simple yet true, like their love. Ivy then offers to give Theresa her wedding dress, which she can alter as she fits. Ethan doesn't think that is a good idea, considering her wedding day was so meaningless to her. Theresa urges Ethan to accept his mother's gift. Ethan says okay, but he doesn't want the wedding to get out of hand and costing him more than he has. Ivy asks Theresa if she could help with some of the planning? Theresa says she would love for her to help. Ivy tells Ethan that she knows she betrayed him, but at least he now knows that Theresa loves him for who he is, not for his name. Ivy says she knows Theresa will never keep a secret from him, she will never be dishonest.
At the hospital, Grace tells Eve that she wants to go home, but Eve doesn't think that is a good idea because she's been through so much and has had so many shocks. Grace thanks Eve for her concern, but she feels something is very wrong at home and needs to leave. Sam and TC show up, and Sam tells Grace that she should stay here as Eve says. Grace knows something is wrong with the children and says she wants to go home right now! Eve says she will release her if she insists, but she doesn't like this. Sam tries to persuade Grace to stay, but she is still angry with him and rebuffs his attempts to play nice. She tells Sam that he sounds so concerned, but if he really cared about her then he would have told her about his relationship with Ivy long ago. After reading Sam the riot act, Grace yells "Damnit, I want to go home!" Eve finally agrees to release Grace, but not before a full exam to make sure she's okay. A nurse starts taking Grace's vitals, and Sam continues to blame himself. Eve tells him not to, and that Grace will forgive him in time. Sam begins to realize that someone had to help Ivy keep her secret, someone had to change the birth records. Sam tells Eve that she knows what he's talking about. Eve panics, but Sam only says that Eve saw the records, so someone must have changed them. Sam thinks someone here doctored the records, and he hopes it wasn't someone he considers a friend. TC says a friend wouldn't do that to him. Sam hates to think that a friend would betray them and not tell them the truth about Ethan. Eve goes back to examine Grace, who is positive that evil is causing harm to her family. Eve and Grace have a heart to heart talk about Sam, and why he kept this secret from her. Grace doesn't think anything will be able to restore the trust they have lost, and if Sam had told her the truth, she never would have let Ivy and Sam get so close together. Eve says that was Ivy's fault, but Grace says if she had known the truth they could have stood against her together! Grace says for all she knows, Sam could have lied to her about other things. Eve says that isn't true, but Grace says she can't be sure, and she doesn't think she'll ever trust him again!
At the Bennett's, Miguel yells to Charity to follow his voice to the other side. Charity is very close to the ladder of Lucifer, but the demons have her in their grasp and won't let go. Miguel says he has to go back and save her, he knows he can succeed this time. Miguel and Reese run back upstairs, but Hecuba casts a spell which causes Charity's door to remain locked. Miguel and Reese run back downstairs, and everyone begins to pray. The sound cut off, so I couldn't hear what was going on. Hecuba casts a spell, which brings little stone gargoyles to life. The gargoyles attack everyone and spit flames at them to keep them all away from the ladder. Father Lonigan tells Pilar that them must anoint Miguel, and he begins to exorcise the demons. Kay is once again burned by Father Lonigan's holy water, and Simone begins to wonder what is wrong with Kay. The gargoyles turn back to stone, and crash to the floor. The kids look back up at the ceiling, and Charity can no longer be seen or heard. Hecuba laughs and says that Charity is gone! Pilar tells Miguel that CHarity is gone, but Miguel says he will save her. Lonigan tells Miguel that they must talk about what they should do next, but Miguel says what they need to do is save Charity! Reese tells Miguel not to fight with Father Lonigan! Miguel calms down and asks Father Lonigan what he should do. Father Lonigan tells Miguel to focus on his love for Charity, that will bring her to him. Miguel asks God to bring Charity back to him, and he once again begins hearing Charity calling for help. Miguel continues to tell God about how much he loves Charity, and how much she loves him. Miguel screams back at Charity to tell him where she is. Charity makes her way to the ladder, but Hecuba refuses to let her escape. Hecuba goes to Charity's room and begins to saw the ropes holding the Ladder of Lucifer to the bed!
Ethan and the gang arrive at Crane Industries, and Ethan's shocked that his passcard still works. Ethan and the others head for Ethan's office to clean it out. They pass the Crane Family Archives, and Theresa asks if they can take a look? Ethan says they can give it a shot, and once again his card works!
Alistair's cute blond secretary brings him a drink, which he thanks her for. Alistair then asks Julian, who he's speaking to on the phone, how he plans on breaking up Luis and Sheridan. Julian doesn't understand why they just play Sheridan's confession tape for them. Alistair tells Julian that he doesn't want any more bad publicity, and warns Julian if he doesn't find a way to break them up he'll be joining Ethan at Harmony's YMCA. Alistair says the last thing they need is Luis digging around and finding out even more Crane secrets, and that is what will happen if they make the tape of Sheridan public! As Julian is playing golf in his office, Alistair calls him to scold him for not thinking of a way to break up Luis and Sheridan. Julian tells his father that as soon as he hangs up he'll take the little secret out at the Gazebo over to the archives at Crane Industries. Alistair says he could still overlook something, and if they don't break up Luis and Sheridan the entire Crane Empire will be destroyed! Luis says there is no possible way anyone will get access to their secrets, but Alistair has heard that before in regards to Ethan and Theresa as well as Sheridan and Luis.
At the cottage, Luis calls the station to learn the latest on the search for Charity. He's shocked to learn that Father Lonigan called off the search because Charity is no longer missing! Luis becomes concerned because neither Miguel nor his mother have updated him on the situation. Sheridan recalls that Father Lonigan said evil had something to do with it. Luis knows Father Lonigan wouldn't say anything he didn't believe, and Sheridan believes that perhaps evil does have something to do with what happened to Charity. Luis says that evil hasn't come to Harmony, people have just been making bad choices. Luis says that Sam should have told Grace the truth long ago, then none of this would have happened. Luis then brings up his father's disappearance, and he vows to prove that Julian or Alistair were behind his father's disappearance. Sheridan doesn't believe they are cable of doing something like that, but Luis does. Luis just realizes he knew of someone who could tell them the truth. Suddenly, Sheridan blurts out that she knows of someone!
As Sam drives Grace home, he suggests they drive down to Boston for his upcoming vacation. Grace tells Sam to just stop acting like nothing has happened! Sam says he's not, he's just trying to have a conversation. Grace says that she doesn't want to have one. Sam says fine, but he still loves her. When he asks her if she still loves him, Grace tells him to just take her home. Sam asks Grace once again if she still loves her. Grace says she doesn't know how to answer him, he lied to her. Grace says they can't go back in time, and she doesn't know if she'll ever feel about him the way she used to. Grace cries that he was her knight in shining armor, her protector. Sam says that is why he didn't tell her about Ivy, he wanted to protect her. Grace says she doesn't want to talk about this anymore, she just needs time with her children and to think. Grace has a feeling that the same evil which crept into their marriage has also invaded their children's' lives. They eventually arrive home, and Sam says that house looks fine. Grace says it is like their marriage, strong on the outside, but a sham on the inside. Sam tells Grace that their marriage will be fine if she lets it.
At the Bennett's, as the kids try to save Charity, Hecuba begins to cut the ropes of the Ladder of Lucifer. Jessica suggests to Father Lonigan that they go upstairs and unhook the ladder so Charity can fall to them, but Father Lonigan says it doesn't work that way, if they unhooked it then Charity would fall to the deepest corners of hell! As Charity continues to climb towards the kids, Pilar asks Kay how the demons where able to take Charity? As Charity is almost out of hell, Hecuba cuts the final thread on the ladder, which causes Charity to fall deeper into hell as the kids watch! Back upstairs, HEcuba casts a spell to close the portal and banish evil from this house. The cloud on the Bennett ceiling closes, and the ladder falls to the floor! Reese notices that the rope has been cut! Sam and Grace walk in, and Grace asks what in the hell happened? Father Lonigan says that hell happened here! Grace asks where Charity is? Grace demands Father Lonigan tell her, and when he doesn't speak, Jessica screams that Charity in hell. Everyone explains what happened, and Pilar says it is all true. Grace tells Sam that she told him something was going on, and if he hadn't argued with her, they could have gotten here earlier. Grace tells Sam that she blames him for the loss of both of her children! Sam says that he is sorry, but Grace says it isn't enough. Grace says she still senses evil, and Hecuba says the Queen of Evil is here, and she begins laughing. Everyone in the house hears Hecuba's laughter!
At the cottage. Sheridan thinks her mother might know what happened between Luis' father and her family, and the answers could be her diaries. Sheridan says her mother left her the diaries in her will, but she was so young when her mom died, and therefore she never read them. Sheridan decides to go see Julian and demand he hand over the diaries. Luis and Sheridan walk in on Julian, who is once again being yelled at by Alistair. Sheridan asks Julian for her mother's diaries, but Julian makes excuses and says that he'll have to look into it because they could be just about anywhere. Sheridan thinks they are in the archives and tells Luis they should head overthere. Julian forbids Sheridan to go to the vault, and tells her she couldnt' get in anyways because only he and father have access. Sheridan says she is a Crane too, but Julian says it is for her safety that she is not allowed in there. Sheridan becomes miffed, and she and Luis eventually leave. AListair once again scolds Julian because now Luis will be more determined than ever to get into that vault and look through there secrets. He also says if Sheridan found those diaries then she would know the truth about MArtin Fitzgerald!
Ethan and Co. return to the Book Cafe, and meet up with Sheridan and Luis. Sheridan talks with Ethan about the diaries, and how she can't get into the vault at Crane Industries. Ethan says he wishes he could help, but he just threw out his access card. Meanwhile, Theresa goes to buy some muffins, but has to charge them because she has no cash. She accidentaly hands Beth the security card she took from the trash, which Beth promptly tells her isn't a credit card. Luis sees it and says "This is my lucky day!"
At the Bennett's, Eve and TC arrive and Simone and the gang explain to everyone what has happened to Charity. TC and Sam find the story hard to swallow, but Pilar says they were here to see it. Grace is furious and blames Sam for this. Eve takes Grace upstairs to rest, and Reese searches the web for information on how to rescue Charity. He comes across a document which says evil can be destroyed if it is killed in it's lair, but Miguel could die trying to do so and would be condemned to hell with Charity. Miguel says he will have to take that risk, but where could the witch's lair be? Father Lonigan says Kay knows. Miguel asks Kay if she knows where this witch lives?
Upstairs, Eve and Grace have a talk about secrets, and Grace asks Eve if she's ever kept a secret from TC. Eve says she has, and she says that she was involved with someone before she met TC, someone who lives right here in Harmony. Grace asks her who this person was, and Eve admits it was Julian Crane. Eve says it was a long time ago, and it was when Julian was much different than he is now. Eve tells Grace about their romance, and how Julian swept her off her feet. Grace says that the two secrets aren't exactly the same, becuase Sam and Ivy had a son. Eve breaks down and tells Grace about her son who died. Grace comforts Eve and urges her to tell TC the truth. Eve says she can't do that because he would never understand. Suddenly, TC walks in and asks what she can't tell him, what wouldn't he understand?
