Taoubah
Repentance to Allah

Our Prophet (pbuh) said," Allah opens his hand at night for the sinner of the day in order for that person to repent, and He opens his hand in the day time for the sinner of the night in order for him to repent until the sun comes out from the west (The day of judgement)."

Omar ibn Al-khatab said: the true repentance (Taoubah) is that the servant of Allah repent from the sin and never do it again in the same way the milk can't get back to the breast of the sheep.

One of the scholars said: the true Taoubah is to ask for forgiveness with your tongue and to feel sorry within your heart, and to withhold your body from committing sins.

In another Hadeeth our Prophet (pbuh) said' " Allah accepts the repentance of his servant unless he was breathing his last breath(dying)."

In another Hadeeth " Whoever does any bad deed and he got the punishment for it in this life this would be the only punishment he gets and he will not be punished for it in the hereafter."

A story:
A married woman came to the Prophet(pbuh) and she was pregnant illegally from adultry, and she asked our Prophet to purify her in this life for her sin. The prophet let her go until she gave birth to the child then she came back to him and he told her to go and come back when the baby is not dependent on her milk and years later she voluntarily came back and her child was able to walk by himself. So he ordered her clothes to be tightened around her body and to put her in a ditch and to be stoned to death. After her death the Prophet (pbuh) prayed on her then Omar asked him why do you pray on her and she is an adultress? but our Prophet (pbuh) replied that she has repented in a way that if this repentence was spread among all the people of Madinah then it would be sufficient for all of them. Didn't you see how she came to her Lord Voluntarily?

Our Prophet (pbuh) said' " I swear by Allah that I ask Allah for his forgiveness every day more than seventy times."

In another Hadeeth our Prophet (pbuh) said," Allah is more glad with one of his servant's Taoubah than someone who lost his camel with all his supplies in the middle of the desert. And he was despaired from finding it so he slept under a tree waiting for his death. And when he woke up he found his camel standing beside him so from his happiness he said mistakenly Oh Allah you are my servant and I'm your Lord (he got confused from his happiness). So Allah is more happy than this man.

Sins are two kinds: One is between Allah and his servants ( like drinking, not fasting...) and Taoubah from this sin has certain condition.
1. To quite doing this sin fearing Allah not his servants.
2. To feel sorry for doing it and the cause of your feeling sorry (Nadam) is your fear from Allah.
3. To promise your self not to return to doing this bad deed again.
4. Not to associate with the people with whom you've done this deed with or have encouraged you to do it.

The second type is a bad deed you commit against another person for example: back biting, stealing,.. and repenting from such deeds requires the same previous condition in addition to ask for forgiveness of the person you hurt or to let him get even with you.

May Allah make us his servants who make Taoubah always.
