By the name of Allah the Merciful the Compassionate
THE IMPORTANCE OF KNOWLEDGE
Seeking knowledge is mandatory on every Muslim and the virtue of those with knowledge upon the ignorant is compared to the light of the moon next to the light of other planets.
Read these verses and Ahadeeth to understand what we mean:
In the Holy Quran:
There is no god but He: that is the witness of Allah, His angels, and those endued with knowledge, standing firm on justice. There is no god but He the Exalted in Power, the Wise.
Those endued with knowledge are those who learn and seek knowledge in order to know more about Allah.
Allah showed a resemblance between a lack of knowledge and blindness, in the Quran:
Is then one who doth know that that which hath been revealed unto thee from thy Lord is the Truth, like one who is blind? It is those who are endued with understanding that receive admonition.
Allah ordered his servants and believers to ask people of knowledge for wisdom and science that they have. In the Quran:
And before thee also the messengers We sent were but men, to whom We granted inspiration: if ye realize this not, ask of those who possess the Message.
Allah also ordered us to increase from knowledge and he asked that from his Prophet pbuh, in the Quran Allah instructs the Prophet to ask for more knowledge.
High above all is Allah, the King, the Truth! be not in haste with the Quran before its revelation to thee is completed, but say, "O my Lord! advance me in knowledge."
Allah praised people of knowledge and honored them.
In the Quran:
Nay, here are Signs self-evident in the hearts of those endowed with knowledge: and none but the unjust reject Our Signs.
Allah ordered people of knowledge to rejoice of the knowledge that Allah gave them and called that a great gratitude and that this knowledge is far more better than all what people gather. In the Quran:
Say: "In the Bounty of Allah. And in His Mercy, in that let them rejoice": that is better than the (wealth) they hoard.
The Prophet pbuh said, this life is cursed along with everything in it except the mentioning of Allah and what is like that and learner and an educator.
And He said, Allah and his angels and even the ant under the earth and the wail in the sea ask forgiveness for those who teach people the good.
And he said, The scientists are the inheritors of Prophets and that Prophets do not inherit money but they inherit knowledge. He who takes it has the best of luck. The death of a scientist is of the biggest catastrophes and an un amendable wound and a demolish of a star. And that a death of a whole tribe is less worse than a death of a knowledgeable person.
The Prophet pbuh said, the best of deed s on this earth is of three: Seeking Knowledge, Jihad (fighting for the sake of Allah), and seeking sustenance.
One of the good people and his name is Ibn Al-Mubarek was asked, if you were to die tonight what would you do now? He said I would seek knowledge.
A scholar (Ibn Al-Qayem) said that Mans need for knowledge is more than his need for air and breathing and that the importance of knowledge to man is like the importance of water to fish.
We learn from these verses and Ahadeeth (sayings) the importance of knowledge and the high status the learner and the educator have before Allah. The best of sciences that we should seek is the science of religion which doesnt make you an easy prey for the devil. If you were a person who has knowledge and spread it among people then you are like a candle that lights the way for others.
