Creation

Do you truly marvel at creation? Do you look to sky when the sun is shining and the rays are breaking through the clouds to touch the earth and not feel the power of Allah? Do you look at the night sky with the moon and the numerous stars lighting the night and not feel the awareness of Allah? Look around you at the variety and beauty of the earth. Feel the power of His creation and stand in awe of Allah!

Behold! in the creation of the heavens and the earth; in the alternation of the night and the day; in the sailing of the ships through the ocean for the profit of mankind; in the rain which God Sends down from the skies, and the life which He gives therewith to an earth that is dead; in the beasts of all kinds that He scatters through the earth; in the change of the winds, and the clouds which they Trail like their slaves between the sky and the earth;- (Here) indeed are Signs for a people that are wise. [2.164]

Behold! in the creation of the heavens and the earth, and the alternation of night and day,- there are indeed Signs for men of understanding,- [3.190]

Twice we are admonished to BEHOLD! This is a very active verb meaning: to see, take note of, view, turn your eyes towards, mark it!, harken to it, turn your attention to, discern, perceive. This verb is in the imperative form for the purpose of calling our attention to something. Do we truly behold the wonderous creations of Allah?

And among His Signs is the creation of the heavens and the earth, and the variations in your languages and your colours: verily in that are Signs for those who know. [30.22]

Praise be to God, Who created (out of nothing) the heavens and the earth, Who made the angels, messengers with wings,- two, or three, or four (pairs): He adds to Creation as He pleases: for God has power over all things. [35.1]

We are without excuse. Even if we were able to create something fairly remarkable, we cannot match the infinite variety, complexity and beauty of the creation of Allah. The Prophet pbuh has pointed these out repeatedly as signs for us to worship Allah.

Men who celebrate the praises of God, standing, sitting, and lying down on their sides, and contemplate the (wonders of) creation in the heavens and the earth, (With the thought): "Our Lord! not for naught Hast Thou created (all) this! Glory to Thee! Give us salvation from the penalty of the Fire. [3.191]

We should praise Allah whenever we are in the presence of his unsurpassable creation. No matter what we are doing we should be aware of the creation of Allah always and give thanks to Him.

To Him will be your return- of all of you. The promise of God is true and sure. It is He Who beginneth the process of creation, and repeateth it, that He may reward with justice those who believe and work righteousness; but those who reject Him will have draughts of boiling fluids, and a penalty grievous, because they did reject Him. [10.4]

Say: "Of your 'partners', can any originate creation and repeat it?" Say: "It is God Who originates creation and repeats it: then how are ye deluded away (from the truth)?" [10.34]

Or, Who originates creation, then repeats it, and who gives you sustenance from heaven and earth? (Can there be another) god besides God? Say, "Bring forth your argument, if ye are telling the truth!" [27.64]

See they not how God originates creation, then repeats it: truly that is easy for God. [29.19]

It is God Who begins (the process of) creation; then repeats it; then shall ye be brought back to Him. [30.11]

It is He Who begins (the process of) creation; then repeats it; and for Him it is most easy. To Him belongs the loftiest similitude (we can think of) in the heavens and the earth: for He is Exalted in Might, full of wisdom. [30.27]

I have always been fascinated that scientists must be able to create and recreate something to prove it was not a freak stroke of luck. Here the Qur'an shows clearly, in numerous places, that Allah originates creation and repeats it. He can do this at will, any number of times. I have not found in the Bible, which I studied fairly extensively, any mention of the ability of our Creator to repeat creation. I think this fact is significant.

However, in speaking of scientists, remember that the created is never in control of the Creator, just as the clay is shaped into a form and does not control the artist. The artist forms the clay as he wills. Our brain and, yes, even the ability to create in our humble fashion, were given to us by Allah.

Say: "Who is the Lord and Sustainer of the heavens and the earth?" Say: "(It is) God." Say: "Do ye then take (for worship) protectors other than Him, such as have no power either for good or for harm to themselves?" Say: "Are the blind equal with those who see? Or the depths of darkness equal with light?" Or do they assign to God partners who have created (anything) as He has created, so that the creation seemed to them similar? Say: "God is the Creator of all things: He is the One, the Supreme and Irresistible." [13.016]

Here the Holy Quran tells us that not only is Allah the Creator... but he is the Sustainer of the heavens and earth. Who moves the earth around the sun? Who makes the rain fall? Who keeps the flowers growing? Who created birds to lay eggs and the nestlings to emerge from the shells? Who puts order to all things in the heavens and earth? Allah, the Greatest and most Merciful.

We must be ready to acknowledge that anything humans can create pales in comparison with the creation of Allah. He alone has created as He wills. Humans only create with much guesswork and error. Our creation is always imperfect. Allah's creation is created in perfection. We cannot hold up our petty attempts at creation and say they are similar to what Allah has made.

Seest thou not that God created the heavens and the earth in Truth? If He so will, He can remove you and put (in your place) a new creation? [14.19]

If He so pleased, He could blot you out and bring in a New Creation. [35.16]

Isn't this an amazing fact to contemplate? You were created by Allah and he can remove you - wipe you off the face of the earth! - at will. We should not be so vain to think that the world cannot move forward without us. Allah can remove you and put someone in your place. We should be thanking and praising Allah that He graciously gave us life.

Do they not look at God's creation, (even) among (inanimate) things,- How their (very) shadows turn round, from the right and the left, prostrating themselves to God, and that in the humblest manner? [16.48]

This makes me think of sunflowers and how they always turn towards the sun and their shadows turn with them. Even if you place an inanimate object, such as a bowl, out in the sun, you will see a shadow. And that shadow will change with the position of the sun. Who moves that shadow? Who controls the sun that causes that shadow to move? We must never take Allah's creation for granted!

He Who created the seven heavens one above another: No want of proportion wilt thou see in the Creation of (God) Most Gracious. So turn thy vision again: seest thou any flaw? [67.3]

Allah does not make mistakes. His creation is perfect. Humans are unable to obtain perfection in their humble creations. Look again, do you see errors?

We should all turn our attention to the mystery of creation. Remember Allah the next time you view a sunset, rainbow, the tide rolling in at a body of water, a flower growing in your garden, a tree spreading it's leaves as shade for you. All of this majesty has been created by Allah. Give praise to Whom it is due.

May we all praise Allah for his wonderful creation.

Your Sister,
Hanin
