You are so absorbed in cutting a path through the mazelike undergrowth of Kivuli Jungle, avoiding the worst and laboring through the slightly better parts, that you hadn't noticed that there is actually a canopy and upper storey above your head. After all, you are too occupied with your own woes to bother looking upward. So you are startled when a voice hails above your head: "Yo, traveller! Need a hand down there?"
You look up and are surprised to see nothing -- oh yes, you conveniently forgot the mist. Squinting through the gray-silvery veil, you hear a rustle of leaves and branches and two glowing lights appear up in front, gleaming a dull purple in the gloom. The eyes are quickly followed by a face and -- to your amazement -- a star-marked body. The leagus jumps lightly onto the ground, tossing back his mane and grinning in self-satisfaction.
"Never fear, the Stars are here!" he laughs at his own joke. "Make that Stars Shattering Black Midnight. Son of Twisted Reality and Shard of the Spectrum Glacier. Didn't you see the jump from the tree that I made? Wasn't it so wonderfully skillful? Of course it was," he answers his own question, "and I'm sure you think so. Right?"
You decide to agree with him, although you weren't too impressed. Stars Shattering Black Midnight gives a knowing grin, before suddenly pricking his ears. "If you got up to here you must be very lost indeed. Well, let me show you the way out of this mess. I'm a very good pathfinder, and this place is so dreary anyway. C'mon, follow me!" With those words the leagus bounds off, brimming with confidence.
You follow, not completely convinced of Stars' ability, but discretion is the better part of valour, and you manage to keep up with him despite his brisk pace. Along the way, Stars amuses you with his boasts and braggadocio, until he suddenly bounds away with a cheery: "Here we are!" leaving you standing alone. Riiiight, this looks no better than where you were before. Ah, why did you trust the frivolous leagus? You shake your head in disgrace and press onward.
