| Dear Lord, a terrible thing has happen to this young lady Carla and her friends are reaching out in prayer in her behalf. If she already knows to call upon your name for help, amen. If she does not, give audience to someone, maybe even Dave Glick to bring the knowledge of you to her side. In any case Lord, be glorified in the case of Carla. Hold her together, sustain her injuries and permit a workable outcome in her behalf. In Jesus' name we stand in the Gap believing in the name and power of Jesus Christ, our lord, amen. |
| March 30, 2001 Hello to All: Well, it has been two and one-half weeks since my skiing accident. Finally I am strong enough to sit up long enough to write to all of you. I am feeling stronger each day. First of all, THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart for the cards, donations, flowers, phone calls and prayers. The support from friends and family has been wonderfully overwhelming! To recount what happened and bring you up to date: On March 11, I had a skiing accident in Lake City, CO while out with my family for a fun day of skiing. I was flown to St. Marys Hospital in Grand Junction, CO. On March 12, I had 6 hour surgery to repair a broken back at the T11 ? T12 vertebrae. During the surgery, two-nine inch rods were inserted to stabilize my spine and relieve any compression on my spinal cord. The surgery went fine. I remained in Grand Junction for one week after my surgery. My diagnosis is complete paralysis from the point of my injury and below. That means no sensation or movement from about 2 inches below my belly button down. The doctors are very hesitant to give a prognosis past what I have today. Although, it is VERY possible that as time goes by and the swelling in my spinal cord diminishes, I could recover something. What that will be, will be a day-to-day soap opera! On March 20 I was transferred to Craig Hospital in Denver, CO. Craig Hospital is one of the leading spinal cord injury rehabilitation centers. It is here I will remain for a minimum of eight weeks to learn how to live life as a paraplegic. My husband, Steve, has been with me every minute and will remain in Denver and complete the rehabilitation classes with me. We both have a lot to learn. We will be working on redefining what normal is for our kids and us. My e-mail address for the time being will be: [email protected] I would love to hear from you. You can write to me at: Carla Whinnery c/o Craig Hospital 3425 South Clarkson Street Englewood, CO 80110 |
