Freewheelin'

Scott Dittrich Films
circa 1977

Freewheelin Stars Stacy Peralta, with Tom Sims and some of the Zepher Team.  This film is about a skateboarder that makes it to the big time.  The story is told through the eyes of the main character's (Stacy) girlfriend.  I have to admit, this is one of the most cheesiest movies I have ever seen, but it has some GREAT skateboard scenes.

Stacy Peralta is the star of the film.  He is about 17 when it was filmed.  Stacy went onto co-found one of the largest skateboard companies around: Powell-Peralta.  Anyway, Stacy is an awesome skater.  He is really fluid, and has created his own style.  He was one of the first to really tipify the "dogtown style".  Stacy is really into "pumping" the skateboard for speed, one of the first guys to figure out that technique.

Anyway, the move follows Stacy, Tom Sims, and Kenny Means (I think that is the dude's name) as they go on a road trip.  Skate scenes abound, including some great downhill scenes.  Tom Sims is one of the founders of the longboard, so to see him in action is really cool.

Tom Sims

There is some footage of some great slalmon and giant slalmon.  Also, to hear Stacy talk about skateboarding is to see a dude that is TOTALLY stoked on the sport.  The only bummer is that you have to listen to this girl talk about how great Stacy is the whole time.  It is really cheesy, and Stacy was actually embarased when the movie came out.

All and all, this move has tons of great skateing from some of the great names in skateboarding.  Just to watch Stacy in action is really cool.  If you could copy his style, you would be a very stylish longboarder.  I give it a 9.5 out of 10.

I got this movie here, at www.sdfilms.com.  Scott is a real nice guy, and he just might sell you a copy too.  If not, sometimes Freewheelin is for sale on e-bay.
