Bones Birgade Video Show

The Bones Birgade Video show is one of the factors in the resurgence of popularity of skateboarding,  known as the Third Wave.  This video was produced by the legendary Stacy Peralta, co-founder of Powell-Peralta skateboards and helped expose the skateing public to 'vert' style skateing.  The video follows a skater around the town as he meets his various friends and skates with them.  Each meeting is an excuse to showcase a different skater.  One of these skaters is a very young Tony Hawk, and it is easy to see why he has become the skateboarding giant that he is.

There is really no longboarding in this video.  There is however an amazing downhill sequence that has some great slideing.  The slide technique shown in the movie is what is known in the longboard scene as the "Coleman Slide".  The Coleman slide is a technique developed by Cliff Cloleman and his friends in the hills of Berkeley California over many years.  I recently had a chance to hang out with Cliff and he gave me some info about the video.  Cliff related to me how he had shown Stacy the slide a short time before the video was shot.  After learning the slide, Stacy told Cliff that it was the most fun he had ever had on a skateboard.  After watching the video and seeing these guys doing these long smooth slides, it is easy to see that he was serious.

All and all, the Bones Birgade Video Show is a good video to have in your collection.  Not only is it a classic video with many innovations (the use of slow motion), it is cool to see Tony Hawk as a little forteen year old kid.  For those of you that have never seen a Coleman Slide and want to, this video is a must
