Well Boys,
Another season has come and just about gone, short of Linden. It’s sure been filled with ups and downs. The passing of our friend Kevin Buzzard’s mother, then father. The passing and saying goodbye to our Old Pard Gordie McCallester. And some scary moments last month in Georgia with Dave’s(aka, David Shackelford, Shack Daddy, The Big Monkey Touch, General Shackelford) heart attack. By the way he’s doing much better. Thanks for the cards and prayers.
On the other hand, we had Holly, the battle for the evil sand pit, taking the last victory point and sealing Nick’s doom, Jackson #15, the moon light concert at the railroad station Saturday night, and for some of you, marching in Georgia.
A lot to think of, to reflect on, to remember. A great yet sombre summer. Remember we still have Linden, then the January business meeting/ powder party. More news to come.
Thanks for a great summer boys,
See you at Linden,
Your pard,
Jim
Your friendly neighbourhood newsletter man is back. Well to keep it short and sweet, Jackson had a great turn out. Our best of the year. It was great to see us all together. We were even fortunate enough to be joined by some of our pards from company A.
Chickamauga was our next playing field. As you all heard Dave Shackelford had a mild Heart Attack. That made the event rough. But he had a couple procedures done and is back in Indianapolis recovering, doing fine. He thanks you all for your prayers. Aside from this, the event was quite fun. The boys got involved in some real slug fests. Saturday afternoon saw some great earth works placed atop a hill. Also, the capture of Nick Medich. The brigade of roughly 350 officers and men held the hill against 2100 confederates. Sunday was a bit laid back compared to Saturday, but saw the brigade go into battle on snodgrass hill at noon. We thought we were going to be held in reserve, but quickly found out otherwise. Here the brigade faced roughly 1200 confederates and once again held.
Dave’s heart attack did some do good. For starters, it was a warning for Dave and hopefully he’ll pay attention. Also, it gave a reason for those who weren’t to put on light blue ribbons. Including Chuck Warnick and his entire staff. It was a beautiful sight. Wish more of you could have seen it.
The next event was River of Time, which a couple of us came out for. It was a small event and there were no battles or guard duty. Which is fine, it gave us a chance to lounge about and enjoy each others company. Something we don’t always get a chance to do.
Coming up is Linden on the weekend of October 23rd and 24th. If you have not already done so, please contact Jim Martin as to your attendance. I will not be there unfortunately, so please do not contact me.
Then once again we come the end of the season. The worst time of year in my opinion. But don’t worry powder parties and drills are already in the planning stages. The annual one “business meeting” we have is now in the planning. The date is January 22nd Ed. Note: Please note this new date and change your calenders. at Jim Church’s house. The meeting starts at 5pm. We will be rolling cartridges during this again so please bring something to contribute. Also, we will figure something out for dinner. May be pizza, may be chili, who knows. Please contact Jim Church as to your attendance and for directions.
And lastly gentlemen, I thank you for all the hard work you did this last season. We saw a lot of new things happen within our ranks and you all did a fabulous job filling the positions and doing the jobs asked of you. I’m positive we’re going to see more of this in the future. Please have a safe and happy winter and holiday season, and I look forward to seeing you all this January.
