Horizontal Stabilizer and Elevator
This is one of those parts that gets to be a lot of fun. The bird really starts to take shape. One are of concern is reaming the hinge pin holes for the elevator. I used a12 inch extension bit holder in order to have enough clearance to use a reamer. Also, you do not want to nick the tubing when filing these tabs. I used duct tape to cover the areas I didn't want nicked as a little extra protection. Below are some photos of the horizontal stabilizer and the elevator assembly.
I called the factory regarding the amount of negative incidence of the horizontal stab. They asked what engine I was installing. When I told them it was the 2si engine, they suggested I deviate from the instructions and move the leading edge of the horizontal stab as high as possible while still being able to insert a bolt. The second picture below shows this. The reason for raising the leading edge is that recently completed flight tests with the lighter 2si engine indicated that less negative incidence on the stab was better. A heavier engine might not need a change in instructions.
