This is my grandfather, he was a Ralph also. He never rode in the desert, but he did ride. This picture was taken in 1923 and the bike is a few years older, it is a Harley of about 1917 vintage. If you are wondering what that cylinder is on the handlebars, it is not a handlebar pad but a kerosene tank to fuel the headlight.
