Ohlone Wilderness
May 2000
The Ohlone hike over the weekend was fun but grueling. Lot's of ups and downs, steep ups and steep downs. We did a little over 20 miles. Only saw a handful of people and I don't think any that were doing the entire route.
Dan must have had over 40 lbs in his pack. He had enough food to feed all of us. Lots of great views, SF, SJ, Livermore Valley, Central Valley, Sierra Mountains. " and. . . .
"We took shade breaks, water breaks, lunch breaks, flower breaks, creature breaks and knee breaks, so they broke up the hiking into manageable pieces. However, I did feel it in my legs the next day. I attribute that to first pack hike of the season. The down hills were probably harder than the up hills. You always worry about slipping and falling, luckily none one did."
"All four us were experienced hikers so it was something we could handle. We all took pictures except for *(name withheld to protect the guilty), he discovered at Mt. Rose that he didn't have any film in his camera. Poor guy. Sherri mentioned that a follow up hike would be to hike from Sunol Wilderness over Mission Peak to maybe Ed Levin Park or maybe visa versa. I think that's any other 10 miles. Good day hike."
Thanks to Bill Henry for running the trip. Since we've traditionally had a Sierra Survival Test for the experienced maybe we should dub this the Ohlone Survival Test for the novice.
