Democrat Point, a mysto point-break in Central Long Island, is off limits
to surfing per order of the New York State Park's Service. Fishermen,
however, are allowed to drive their trucks out to the sandy point and,
during the warmer months, jetskiers can be found cluttering the lineup.
Enforcement of the no-surfing rule is arbitrary. Local surfers with a good
attitude and/or a box of donuts have been known to dissuade police from
enforcing the park's rule.
Demos rarely gets the combination of wind and swell required to make the long left-hand wall line up properly. But when it's on, it's the closest thing New York's got to G-Land.
Wouldn't it be great if people on the East Coast had the same kind of beach access that people in California enjoy? And wouldn't it be amazing if surfing were legalized here?

greetings from his longboard at the Ditch ("My wave goddammit!") or
teaching the local grems his signature Wooden Indian stance. The Minister

world's first 20-foot ferrocement longboard.
