This is looking northward along the boggy shore of the eastern side of the pond. The round depression in the upper circle is where I had sunk down in really soft mud deep enough for me to reach up and just have my hand break above the surface. I wasn't sure if I could hold my breath long enough to force myself deep enough under so as to not touch the surface, and didn't get around to trying. The dark disturbed area in the lower circle is where I had sunk a number of times into mud that got progressively thicker each time, until I could no longer get it to close over me before claustrophobia set in. It was more work breathing due to the pressure on my chest, and due to the carbon dioxide building up in the deep gap in the mud above my head.
