Law System
Ok, this is a basic breakdown of what will happen
from the time you commit a crime, until you are punished.
1. You commit crime.
- crime is logged.
1a. If the crime is committed inside of Mordor, the crime
is not logged and is not reportable.
2. Victim finds who commited the crime
2a. Sheriffs investigate if the victim is unsure who the
criminal is
- Sheriffs can investigate a crime, and try to determine
who did it.
- This is possible with both steals and kills.
2b. Crime is reported by the victim.
- There is a statute of limitations on crimes. If it isnt
reported within 7 RL days (that's Real Life to the mud-impaired),
then it is no longer reportable.
- Only the victim can report the crime.
- They have to name a suspect.
- If the suspect isn't the person who committed the crime
and the suspect pleads innocent, then the suspect gets off
and the victim must pay court costs - which multiplies for
each false report
- If an attempted murder was committed, the victim must
report BEFORE logging off or going linkdead.
3. A guy walks up and gives you a letter.
- the letter is a subpoena (an order to appear in court)
- it says you are charged with (insert crime here) and
that you must report to the nearest judge and enter your
plea
- You have one hour of playing time. A login message
will remind you.
4. You report to the nearest judge and enter your plea
- If you plead not guilty you have a chance of not being
convicted but if you are the fines will be higher
- If you plead guilty the judge tells you your fine and
gives you a time period in which to pay it.
- If you are guilty of attempted murder or murder you
will become "wanted" right away.
...this is also when you can attempt to bribe the judge
if you are a thief or assassin.
4a. If you become "wanted" immediatly because of being guilty
of attempted murder or murder, you still have a chance to
pay off your fine and get off the "wanted" list. If you fail
to do this then you will stay "wanted"
5. From the time you are fined (either by pleading guilty or
not pleading within one hour) you receive messages when you
log on indicating your fine and the time left to pay it.
5a. You pay your fine within the time. The victim gets some
compensation for your offense.
5b. You don't pay, so you become wanted after time runs out.
- Wanted posters go up in the post offices: ex. Manwe is
wanted
- Sheriff's can now handcuff you.
- Any player can now legally kill you!
- Hiding at places where no sheriff can arrest you (boat, etc)
is ILLEGAL, and will be punished accordingly to 'help nuke'.
- Hiding on mounts and on flying beasts is NOT illegal.
6. You are handcuffed by a sheriff.
- Sheriff's have a "find" command that tells them all the
wanted players logged on.
- Sheriff's can handcuff unwanted people, but if they do...
they go on trial for unlawful arrest
+ Three strikes and you're out rule. Three false arrests and
sheriff is off the force. Back to being a civilian.
+ A sheriff convicted of murder is also kicked off the force
- Also, local post offices will have posters of the wanted
people reported in that area.
- handcuff sends you to a jail based on your level and the
severity of the crime.
- Once you are handcuffed, you sit in the cell for a little
while...
7. Ok, now you are taken from your cell to court..where you
gothrough a simulated trial...that will give you a slim chance
of not being convicted. The judge will give you a sentence,
which will be a larger fine...and you cant leave until you
pay it. (in the case of multiple Pkillers...death sentence?
*cackle*)
8. You are sent back to your cell until you pay the fine, or
it is sucked out of you in the form of stats and skills and
possibly exp.
- In the case of multiple pkillers...who get death
sentence...you would be issued a LARGE fine...and if you
cant pay it...then the executioner comes for you.
MUHAHAHAHAHAHA
- If you pay the fine, or after it is sucked out of you...you
are set free outside the jail.
9. If you can avoid being caught for 1 game day the warrant is
dropped
Crime Breakdown:
False Arrest - applies to sheriffs only. Wrongly arresting a
non-wanted person. No fine, but sheriff loses job after the
3rd such offence.
False Report - wrongly accusing someone of a crime. Make sure
you know who commited it before you accuse.
Attempted Steal - a failed attempt to take belongings. Thieves
get a 10% discount off the bribe cost for this offence.
Steal - taking things from a unwilling person. No bribe for
this crime.
Attempted Murder - a failed attempt on a persons life. You
become wanted immediately if found guilty when you plead.
Assassins get a 10% discount off the cost of a bribe for
this offence.
Murder - taking another characters life other than in
self-defense. You become wanted immediatly if you are found
guilty of this offense. No bribe.
If the criminal pleads innocent he has a 5% chance to not be
convicted. If convicted, the criminal faces a 10% fine increase.
Emotes of crimes:
To keep from being fooled by crime emotes, look for
the following messages, none of which can be emoted:
You catch XXX trying to steal YYY from you!
You noticed that XXX stole YYY from you!
You are attacked by XXX!
Without warning, XXX attacks you from behind!
NOTE: Attacking a horse when someone is riding it is considered
attempted murder.
