~Low cost potting~
Save the 2 liter bottles from soda...cut them down to a workable height...punch holes in the bottom. Great for kids to work with. and they are FREE
Save those styrofoam peanuts like what come in packages...place a few in the botom of a pot for planting or transplanting, under your choice of potting soil, to assist in drainage.
~Seeds~
If you have seeds but are unsure if they are any good anymore...place a bunch on a good and wet newspaper...spread them out an inch or so between...cover with another good and wet newspaper cover with an aluminum foil pan and allow them to sit for 4 to 5 days...Now lift the foil and top newsaper...if 50% o more have germinated he seeds should be worth planting.
~Geraniums~
Instead of transplanting....do not remove from existing pot...just place pot into the ground...These plants like their feet pinched and dry! TRY it ...it works.
FRESH CUT FLOWERS
When changing the water daily to keep your bouquet fresh longer...try using warm water as the flowers will drink it faster, thus freshening your bouquet quicker
If you find that your fresh flowers are droopy, place the stems in plastic straws to keep them up right.
If you are planting young trees and are bothered by deer and other wild critters who seem to favor the flavor of your seedlings...take human hair from your combs and brushes and stuff an old nylon stocking or a panty hose leg. Tie the hair into a wad and hang on the tree...Wild animals stay clear of human scent. (try a visit to the local barber for more hair)
AROUND THE HOME
Easy Clean Rollers Before washing out paint rollers, roll them over old newspaper to get out as much excess paint as possible.
Loosen A Sticky Lock Got a lock that sticks? Try this trick: place a drop of oil on the key and insert it. A few turns will lubricate the lock, making it as easy to open as when it was new.
THOSE PESKY INSECTS
Ants, ants, ants everywhere ... Well, they are said to never cross a chalk line. So get your chalk out and draw a line on the floor or wherever ants tend to march- see for yourself.
To rid your house plants of Mealy Bugs...Empty the tobacco from an ashtray full of butts...soak with water for 24 hours. strain out the water and reserve it..dispose of tobacco...place water in spray bottle/and spray affected plants...Its a real killer.
~RECYCLING~
Don't throw away the dryer lint...just drop it out side...the birds will take it to build their nests.
