I'm Only Human Too

--next--

--previous--

Nancy's got the tea tray,
I'm sitting in a chair
In a room full of people
I'm the only one who's there

When, speaking from the doorway,
She says, sorry I can't cope.
Is it only me she's speaking to
Who else knew she spoke?

Joanna's much more violent.
She lies down in the street.
No hint of an apology
In the flailing hands and feet.

I don't mind helping Nancy
In her strife with serving tea.
I can even give Joanna
The odd glance of sympathy.

But remember what I am please
I'm only human too.
I don't have special powers
Or a thicker skin than you.

The dark comes down on all of us
At times and leaves no hope.
We'd love to turn to someone else
And plead for help to cope.

Remember that we're people
And all much of a kind.
We all fall prey to moments
That we'd like to leave behind

So take your tranx and tablets
Official sealed and signed
Dread the ghastly moments
When help is hard to find.

But beware of laying blame
On the rest of human kind
There is no inner strength in me
That you've no way to find

Because the very bottom line
Is that you control your mind.
