I have been growing plants all of my life. I joined the Greater Cincinnati Rose Association in 1988 and have been active since then. When my husband retired, he joined me in the love of growing roses and we presently have about 100 roses, hybrid teas, florabundas, grandifloras, miniature roses and David Austin roses. We have quite a bit of shade in our garden and our roses probably get the minimum of sunlight, however we have won the "Queen", the top award for a hybrid tea rose in a rose show.
I root miniature roses almost every year by hardwood cuttings. My first rooted miniature roses were from Don Pratt, Consulting Rosarian and GCRA member, many years ago, before I was a GCRA member. One October he was a guest speaker for a garden club program, and since I had rooted shrubs and plants before, I was "elected" to root his roses for our club members. In the spring, before other roses were leafing out, I had a bloom on one of those rooted mini roses which was in its "greenhouse", an overturned bottle under a shrub. I was hooked!
The Christmas of 1996, Santa brought me a computer, Windows 95 with all the bells and whistles. I now have a scanner. I have been learning about word-processing, and the wonders of the Internet over the year and am always looking for new things to see and do. My son's wife has a piano studio and she made a home page and was encouraging me to do so. The thing I am most interested in is roses, so in December I started compiling information about them, and searching all the rose related web sights. Thus, this web page. I hope you get hooked on roses too.
