The Borough of East York
SUMMARY
East York is Metro Toronto's smallest municipality and Canada's only borough. Located only 20 minutes by transit from Toronto's downtown core, East York offers its residents accessibility to Toronto's major business districts without the high costs and congestion. It also offers easy access to the rest of the region, including Pearson International Airport, via The Don Valley Parkway which links directly to Highway 401 and the QEW.
East York has reduced some of the cost of doing business. Companies can build or renovate industrial and commercial buildings without paying many of the usual fees, including building permits and development charges.
Land Area: 22 sq.km./8 sq.mi.
Total Businesses: 1,683 (Borough of East York, 1995)
