Carrier Air Wing FIVE.
These pictures are of Carrier Air Wing Five, deployed on both the ex-USS INDEPENDENCE and now on the USS KITTY HAWK. Carrier Air Wing Five consists of three F-18 Hornet Squadrons, one F-14 Tomcat squadron, one EA-6B Prowler squadron, one E-2 Hawkeye squadron, one C-2 Greyhound squadron, one S-3 Viking squadron, one ES-3B squadron, and one HH-60/SH-60 squadron. When in port in Japan, the squadron flies off to Atsugi NAF and conducts their business there.
An F-18 flies in for a landing on board the USS KITTY HAWK at dusk.
The CAG airwing flying in front of Mt Fuji, Japan. I actually climbed this mountain, made it all the way up. I'll never do it again though.

Presenting the F-18 Hornets of VFA-27, VFA-192, and VFA-195, our three F-18 squadons on board.
The E-2C Hawkeyes of Carrier Airborne Early Warning Squadron VAW-115.
The EA-6B Prowlers of VAQ-136.
The SH-60 and HH-60 Seahawks of HS-14.
The S-3 Vikings of VS-21, our submarine killers.
And last but not least: the now decommisioned EAGLES of VA-115. They were decommissioned early in 96. An all-weather bomber, they flew missions from Vietnam to Desert Storm.

The last flight of the Intruder.
Ever wonder what happened to those Intruders? Some of them went to artificial reefs, others to museums.
