Ringworm

Ringworm is caused by one or more of four species of fungus.   These fungi live everywhere.. on my skin, on your skin, and on our healthy pets' skin.  Our immune system keeps it from causing disease.  Sometimes our immune system is weakened by external or internal factors such as immune-debilitating viruses, diabetes, certain medications (such as anti-inflammatories), inadequate nutrition, stress among others.

In my experience, the best way to deal with ringworm is by strengthening the immune system.  Most of my cats already had ringworm at least once in their lives and in every occasion I used the B vitamins instead of ointments or oral anti-mycotics.  In every occasion it worked.  After four or five days of supplementing with the Bs, fur started growing back in the affected areas.  I used one tablet a day containing 100% of the human RDA.  All excess is excreted by the kidneys even if the cat has CRF.

My cats do not have any immune-debilitating virus such as FeLV, FIV or FIP so I do not know if only the B vitamins would be as effective in cats who have these viruses but they would certainly benefit from this therapy.

For those who have dogs, I also used the B vitamins to treat demodectic mange and it worked just as well.  No other medications or ointments were necessary.  But with dogs, the therapy is permanent.  Once the Bs are no longer given, the mange will recur.   The immune debilitation in dogs susceptible to demodectic mange is most likely caused by inbreeding but it may be due to other factors.
