The Cat Purr

Humans take it for granted.  For cats it is one ofour deepest
expressions of emotion.  We don't just walk around the house purring when we want to.  We share a purr when we aredeeply satisfied.  And we don't always have to purr at a human.

I, for one, love to purr at the kid human's 10 year old "blanky."That thing is so soft and warm, I can't help but curl up on that and launch my unabashed rattle.  Although the purr remains a scientific mystery to humans (it figures), there are different

KINDS of purrs.  First there is the soft purr, for which we cats are most famous. It is a slow, steady purr like a finely tuned machine.

It is so soft it is almost inaudible to the human ear.
That is why it's best to use this purr close to the human ear,
preferably while standing on the Big Owner's head each morning while he's still in bed. Stick a whisker in theBig O's ear if he isn't quite awake.  This purr will melt the heart of any human.

Next is the "Come and Go" purr, where you alternate
loud and soft depending on your cat breathing technique.
This keeps humans from becoming hypnotised by your
purr and inadvertently stopping scratching you.  The loud
purrs snap them to attention and back to the task at hand..
making you happy.

There is the "Rumble Purr."  This one is a steady, loud
purr.  Humans should be able to feel the bed tremble when
you engage this purr.

Finally there is the "Diesel Purr," a combination of loud
rumbles, broken up by blaring sputters from your snout.
Just by looking at you the Big O should see your
cheeks shaking.  Lots of drool here, too.  Be sure your are
sitting directly on a human lap or chest when you let the drool go. They like that, I think.

Pardon me, I am beginning to purr.
And the Big Owner's lap is free right now.

 It was a good day.
