Discus

These fish are hard to keep but are nice. There are the Green Discus (which has two subspecies- the Brown Discus and Blue Discus) and the Heckel Discus forms.

These fish need big tanks to live in. The tank should not be any smaller than 40 or 50 inches long and 20 inches tall. After all, the Discus can get as big as a dinner plate!

They prefer a lightly-planted tank with a soft bottom. Have open areas for swimming in the aquarium. The lighting should be subdued and the temperature in the water should be between 79 and 86 degrees Farenheit.

More care for the Discus:

pH: 6.0-6.5----- dH: 2-5 degrees----- Temperature: 79-86 degrees Farenheit----- Foods: like hatchetfish, the Discus rarely takes flake foods. Feed them all types of live foods. Young Discus take freeze-dried tablets after acclimatization.
